@Roy: Again, what?
Yeah, Andromeda is heading for you. You got over 9000 years until it collides.

That's what she said.

Here's another scale of the moon:

Pretty big I'd have to say.

@Sereg: I don't think anyone was ever claiming that they did.

I've seen claims.

All I'm saying is that the moon obviously functions differently then our own, due to how easy it was to lasso it.

That has nothing to do with the moon and everything to do with the lasso. Seriously, in theory you could lasso our moon.

EDIT:

Wow, Applejack can do that? Earth ponies are so overpowered.

No. Celestia did that. AJ would hve to be about three times faster than RD to do that (again, unless, as JT says, ther planet has a pathetic escape velocity).

You'd need a really strong lasso, though.
Oh, no! They've all transformed into giant, Swedish, lederhosen-clad yodelers! Run!

In theory, yes, but the ease with which the ponies do it makes it clear something different is going on. Also, I never claimed that the planet has a weak escape velocity. Although I will point out that either the moon functions differently, or the entire planet's tide just got screwed up.

Celestia's aura is around the lasso. Aim, speed and strength issues should be expalined by that.

EDIT: Probably asked Leo or someone to make sure the tides were okay.tongue

I'm just going with the "Magic weirdness" explanation.

@Sereg: I was kind of joking. It does look like AJ is the one who lassoed it though, just with magical help. Celestia provides the magic, AJ snags the moon. Or something.

I didn't know Equestria had access to Gleipnir.

Also, tell me that there's some sort of comment in the comic about the moon being made of cheese. Or that it actually is made of cheese.

Hmm... The second pic that Orion linked may be an indication that their moon actually is smaller than ours, unlike I believed. We can still see curvature despite the fact that it's reached the toposphere (it's partially blocking a cloud). We'd need geometry that I'm not used to doing to work that out though.

I would do the math, but without knowing just how far off the ground it is, I wouldn't get anywhere. I know it at least gets below cloud level, but clouds seem to form much closer to the ground in Equestria, so its height is still an unknown.

@Sereg: Anywhere between 17 km and, say... a couple hundred feet? That's a bit of a range.

I'd say it is at maximum 2...km.
