@Lyra: I have a question that's for you or any other Equestrians posting here. Is Nightmare Night still celebrated after Luna made her public appearance and proved that she wasn't Nightmare Moon anymore? If it still is, has any aspect of the celebration been changed because of the truth about Luna being more widely known now?

It would be so hilarious if there are two tropers using the same sockpuppet. It would be like, say, Lightning Dust and Lightning.

Well there are a few sockpuppets that have been used by multiple people.

Evening Everypony. What's going on?
Yeah, Andromeda is heading for you. You got over 9000 years until it collides.

Also the comic proved that the hypothesis that the Equestrian moon was really small and close is wrong (well, depending on how small and close they mean, it's certianly not a tiny thing within the atmosphere as some suspected. I just proved that at an absolute minimum, it's bigger than Japan.)

[up]That "proof" is only solid assuming that things like escape velocity aren't affected by magic, an attempting to approximate the size of the moon based on a panel that's obviously not drawn to scale. Using the size of the rope as a reference, the moon is only like the size of a building at best.

What kind of building are we talking about? Ones in Canterlot or Manehattan?

I'm just approximating, but I'd say around 10-15 stories.

I'm not being serious, obviously, I'm just pointing out that attempting to measure the relative size of the earth and the moon based on the panel Sereg is talking about doesn't really offer anything definitive.

I know, I (for the moment) gave up on trying to figure out size of the sun and moon. I am just sticking with the Aristotelian model. Your comparison just got my interest.

Why do we even need to? Can't you just ask Twilight?

What panel is this and how can it indicate the size of the moon?

Speaking of the comics, any guess when they'll be collected into volumes? I don't read many comics, but when I do, that's my preferred method of reading them.
Oh, no! They've all transformed into giant, Swedish, lederhosen-clad yodelers! Run!

Man, I am imagining; 3-5 tropers sockpuppeting and talking to each other. That would be hilarious. Until it gets annoying.

Well there were two main sockpuppet events. There was one very early on in the thread, and then an attempt at a revival much later. I can try to dig them up for you if you want.

[up]Well I think issues 1-4 are already in a volume.

The comic panel in question is here. (Issue #6 spoilers). Yes, that shows them Lassoing the moon. I personally think that pretty much lays to rest any theories that the Equestrian moon is anything like ours, but it's still fun to try to make comparisons.

That "proof" is only solid assuming that things like escape velocity aren't affected by magic,

The escape velocity was just something extra I noted.

an attempting to approximate the size of the moon based on a panel that's obviously not drawn to scale. Using the size of the rope as a reference, the moon is only like the size of a building at best.

All I was showing was that the shorter section of the rope wrapped right round the planet. Looks like a pretty obvious indiction that the moon is further than the circumferance of the Earth to me. But if you want to deny t due to scale issues, you can t least confirm that they clearly don't share an atmosphere.

EDIT:[up]There's not much preventing us from lassoing our own moon.

@Sereg: I don't think anyone was ever claiming that they did. All I'm saying is that the moon obviously functions differently then our own, due to how easy it was to lasso it.
