so guys. it's been three seasons. a roller coaster of fun, friendship and magic. and to pass some of the time, how about reminisce? does anyone remember the story of how they became a brony (or pegasister)? i still remember it like it was yesterday... *cue flashback ripple dissolve*

the show itself had been running for about a season and a quarter when i joined up. i was browsing the internet—just checking my usual haunts: deviantART, YouTube, Facebook—when i saw it. ponies. ponies everywhere. all tied to this one girls' show: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. i was baffled as to why a such a girly show brought about such fanfare. so, one night when i was home alone, i fired up YouTube and looked up the first episode of the series, expecting it to be just more of "the internet being stupid."

but what i found was something... surprising. as the episode went on, i was shocked to find that the show wasn't nearly as girly as i thought. i... i started to sympathize with the characters, specifically the purple unicorn with her mind on her studies. the white fashion diva unicorn's drama queen reactions and the pink one's hyperactive antics amused me. i began to care about the characters on this... this girls' show. by the end of the episode—when the villain was revealed—i actually felt the same sense of peril that the the characters felt.

then the episode ended. in the suggested videos list was part two of the premiere. i believe that the moment i became a brony was when i moved my mouse to that thumbnail out of my own free will... and clicked on it.

anyway, that's my story. what's yours?

Everyone was using pony avatars, so I looked it up on youtube to see what the fuss was about. The first few episodes were entertaining enough, and it kind of grew on me from there.

Nothing to write home about, really.

Well, I'm one of the Old Brigade, someone who had a liking for G1 ponies. Was reintroduced through /co/, and Lauren's name was enough to spark my curiosity. The rest is history.

Syd: TV Tropes' parser puts a space after commas. Backspace that out.

Generally if a URL doesn't work on this site, look for where the parser inserted a space after a comma, or where it broke up a long URL with a hyphen and space. The same thing happens every time someone posts an LA Times link like this, because their URL format has a comma-delimited serial.

@Crimson: I started watching about 2/3rds of the way through season 1, although I didn't start posting in this thread until the gap between S1 and S2. I was curious what all the fuss was about so I watched it on youtube. Enjoyed it enough that I kept going and here I am.

Anyway, I must sleep now.

I saw it referenced in a few places back during season one. Decided to give it a shot, and since I was trying to put off studying for midterms or finals or something ended up watching all 23 episodes in about two days.

Well, I first saw pony avatars about forums. Dismissing it as a fad, I ignored them, until my cousin noted that I reminded him of Pinkie Pie. I challenged him over this, under the belief that he was using a Stealth Insult. When I asked him what Pinkie is like, he said to watch the show and find out. I had attempted to understand the fandom before, so I had passing familiarity to the characters. So, I watched the first few episodes.

The rest has been seen by you, in a profoundly mental way.
