That's why a few friends I've recently gotten to join the herd know nothing about Princess Twilight. Hopefully, they can at least get the surprise it should have been.

That's what fails to reassure me — unless it's meaningless, which such a drastic change shouldn't be, then how the hell can you possibly hope to maintain the character dynamic of the series in statu quo? Either it does change everything, which will piss the fans off, or it's a stupid and pointless alteration, which will piss the fans off.
Until you consistently hear more talk about How Much This Sucks than about How Awesome It Is That It Even Exists, it's not a real fandom.

Once Season 4 comes around, I just hope they don't end this 3-parter with Twilight becoming a regular unicorn again, because I think that would anger the fans more than if she stays a princess! All that bad writing FOR NOTHING!?!?
Are there any canon couples other than the cakes and SA/Cadance?
@CDRW There's the background couples from H&HD, as well as all of the known parents. Big Mac and Cheerilee is implied, but not confirmed, same with Fancypants and Fleur.
@Perpetual: I wouldn't call it bad writing, but the compression of the episode definitely meant that things weren't demonstrated with the show's regular level of detail.
I thought MMC was wrapped up too quickly and neatly. I'd have preferred a bit more drama and deliberation.

@Turtle: There are plenty of bipeds hanging around; Spike, diamond dogs, minotaurs, Fluttershy probably has a monkey or two... heck, there are teddy bears in that picture that the drawing could be.
It's not like this whole situation is backed up by a wankload of logic!
