Some people say ponies are amazingly durable.

In a universe operated by cartoon physics, anyone is.

@Seraphem: I was actually fine with the portrayal of Dash in the episode. A little extreme perhaps, but well within her behavior patterns at that point in the show (and it was more even handed the people give credit for).

No I say that the other were worst, though that is more down to not recognizing implications and lazy writing then anything else.

@Rainboom physics: Oh, this again? This is like that one website that calculates how many megatons of force anime characters can punch with or something, and then complain when it's not kept consistent.

Honestly, sit back, be quiet and enjoy the show. =|

You know, Dash was one of my least favorite characters at the time, and even I didn't like the episode. I really don't see how people can think that it's just Dash fans who hate the episode.

a lot of the hate

I agree that the episode had problems, but it's a lot better than it's made out to be. When I first heard that people were calling t the orst episode ever, I couldn't believe how ridiculous that was. As you can see, it's not even close to my least favourite episode (it's one of my least favourite season 2 episodes, but that's different).

Call me a little too laid back, but I don't think I actually had a least favorite episode at all. It's probably just myself having no sense of quality, but I didn't find any particularly bad episodes in my books.

My thoughts on the rainboom?

@Sereg: Fair enough. I personally really hate the implications of her friends actions and feel that to just brush aside their part in it is wrong.

[up]Nah, it's just people like me who are too uptight.tongue

@Red - As such I am emphasizing the cartoon physics part.

Actually I think I am thinking about referring it as a bullshit physics.

@d Roy Fixed that. Changed link to better video of WWU without trolling.

[up][up][up]I completely understand your POV. I have some least favorite episodes but I don't think any episode is bad.

At least the comics have given us a more concrete evaluation of the upper limits of her abilities. Especially since that's the point where her body straight-up gives out on her.

It wasn't just the Mane 6 treating Dash that way. It was also just how exaggeratedly OOC Dash was, and more to a point, how the entire setting felt OOC. Nothing about the episode felt at all like the rest of the series.

Understandable criticisms, (I do think that these are smaller problems than made out to be and I see that Mio grees about Dash) but that isn't anywhere near enough to be as hated as it is.

@Ace - Well, if you want to eat up that kind of nonsensical explanation, I can't say anything more.

Racial magic is canon. Deal with it.

Not that discussion on the science behind the sonic Rainboom again. It's all cartoon physics! You can't apply real life to it! I know I often ask what ponies are capable of, but that's only within the realms of the show. I don't need the science behind it.

Um, it is within the show. We watched her do it! And being Cartoon Physics alters nothing. They can do it so they can do it. Reasoning is irrelevant.

Besides, moving the Sun (hey, the moon) is far more impresive. You meed to be mach 40 to move the moon around the earth once a day. Even if the moon and sun are "closer", they still need to circumnavigate the globe once a day.

Well, Sonic using the power of Chaos by default is practically canon lol, it's why he can handle Chaos Emeralds so naturally and figured out Chaos Control by the end of Adventure 2. Also he slows down for the sake of other a lot, in the CD ending he isn't moving that fast with Amy in his arms, and when he took part in the Olympics he slows down for the sake of Eggman and Mario and all the other guys who show up.

And yes I know cartoon physics lol, but Dashie is also shown to have excellent weather control, so it's pretty much a given she would bend her own winds about herself to improve her flight speed.

@Ed: It isn't actualy nsfw lol.

Can we not start up the sun/moon moving thing again? We have no idea what the relationship between magic and physics is, so whether magic even follows the laws of physics is kind of a crapshoot.

[up][up][up][up]I had a couple close calls too. -hug-

[up][up][up]I suppose I shouldn't dabble... as long as the in-universe rules are obeyed, I won't question it.

With regards to the sun and the moon, the current comic arc seems to throw real-life cosmology out the window, at least with regards to the Moon, though we don't know the exact details just yet.

I think you'd have to be a mad man to believe that Celestia is moving the Sun as in heliocentric model.

And regarding MMDW I'm kinda in a middle camp on the other mane 5. I think their actions could have been justified, but the show did a crappy job of it and showed them jumping right to an extreme solution rather than trying anything else first. If there had been a scene with them sitting Dash down and explaining that she'd hurt someone if she kept the showboating up, and then resorted to the MMDW thing when it didn't work, it would have been more palatable. It also doesn't help that they included that scene where they all pat themselves on the back by talking about how the MMDW is so awesome, talking only about their own contributions.

And yeah, the cosmology is so different from reality that trying to apply real life physics to it is pretty much an impossible effort. Then you have to factor in Rule Of Cool and Rule of Funny and Cartoon Physics...

I'd have felt justified in imprisoning her. Criminal negligence is a serious offence.

Isn't any rule out there about discusing science in fantasy? That every time someone do this , some magical creature dies?
