Pretty much the ONLY time I can think of a problem actually being solved by her magic alone was Boast Busters when she banished the Ursa.

If anything it'll just cause MORE problems:

And even then it caused a chain of events that led to her being temporary banished form Ponyville. Also she was the reason her friends cutie marks were swapped, forever causing them endless misery and pain (literally in Pinkie and Dash's case).

That video raises a good point. Twilight is going to need an entirely new set of dresses that have wing holes.

I'm sure Rarity could make those modifications fairly easily.

She could, but she'd probably prefer to make an entirely new ensemble. After all, those old dresses don't go with her wings at all.

And she'd love every minute of it. Can you imagine how good it would be for business that you got to design a dress for the new princess' coronation?

Next year Twilight again runs into Jet Set and Upper Crust on her birthday, and for some reason they still don't know who she is.

So, I scanned in hat picture I was drawing, and I'd like to get your thoughts on it.

There's really no shading on it yet (gotta work out how to do that right), and I think maybe I should've scanned it in as a Black/White instead of Color, so that the background would be more white than gray. Not sure how to, or if I'm going to, color it. I have some nice professional-ish colored pencils around, or I could ry to figure out a way to do digital coloring without a tablet.

Oh, and I did some cropping and stuff, and made it into the first draft of a card◊.

Anyway, what do you think? It's my first time really drawing anything like his. I definitely want to practice and improve, though.

For a first effort, it's very nice. Very smoothly drawn, with nice clean lines. With some steady practice, you'll do just fine. And I'm learning shading very quickly myself here, so I can impart some advice if needed.

Yeah, I was trying to make the lines smooth. Basically, I used a soft pencil to do guidelines and the basic outlines of stuff. Then I used a harder pencil to make the more permanent lines, and erased the softer guidelines, leaving the harder ones.

Seeing as RD actually got into the Wodnerbolts Academy, I think Rarity's sucess is going to start stickign more too.

That's the good old fashioned way to do it.

What number pencils do you have?

Well, I'm hardly a great artist myself, but generally when I draw, I'll very lightly sketch out the pony with lots of short quick lines to get the general shape down. That way I have a framework for the final drawing and can see where any mistakes are and fix them before the drawing is too far along.

And ninjad with you basically saying you do exactly that.

HB, 2B, and 4B, I think they were. I also have a pair of pencils in orange-pained wood tha I don't quite remember what they are. But I think they're really soft and meant for shading, if I recall correctly.

I used to have a long shaft of charcoal, but it shattered into splinters. I still have a smaller rectangle of black charcoal, as well as a red one and a white one.

And one of those formless, kneaded erasers, too.

I got this very nice sketchpad and pencil set for my birhday a couple years bck, and I'm finally trying to get some more use out of it, because I really want to draw well. Oh, and a book on perspective. That helped with the bookshelf.

Well the trick with shading is to pick the location of the light source and stay consistent with it. Even if you have to draw it on temporarily.

When I'm drawing and shading atm, I pick four shades of the same colour (which photoshop arranges out nicely). The darkest shade is used as the outline, the second brightest shade is the main colour, the brightest is the highlight, and the second darkest is the shading. You can easily apply that to pencil work.

That's probably really obvious sounding, but it took me a long time to realize it, and I'm still trying to master it.

Yeah, I'll have to work on it myself. I think that perspective book has a section on shading.

What do you think of the picture (or at least the setting) as a card? I'll probably re-do it later and improve on it, (like show more books being drawn from the shelf, and such) but do you think it fits the position I chose?
