The more humanoid something is the less anthropomorphic it is though. Anthropomorphics are humanoid animals... not people with animal traits. You cant anthropomorphise something thats already prettymuch human.

I don't see cat girls as truly anthropomorphic... for example

Having been a furry for years.. I just cant accept slapping ears on a guy and saying that makes him anthro. Thats the exact opposite of anthro for me... making a human more animally... Anthropomorphism is making animals more humaney

Righ. So a character more animal features would be less human-shaped than a character that's just a human with a weird skin tone.

I mean, I obviously know what was meant by the phrase, I just sort of feel the need to discuss it a litle.

Thing is, "anthro" (short for "anthropomorphic") doesn't mean human-like, not exactly. Otherwise, we should be calling ourselves anthro. It's really more like a point or zone between fully animal-like and fully human-like.

I'm pretty sure the pure WTF value would have gotten quite a few viewers who just turned in because "it's a show about what?"

You guys have said its not the ponies that make the show.. Its the story and values.

@Turtle: The writing is the bulk of it, but there are definitely some additional limitations on the types of plots you could do if they were all sloths. RD would have to undergo a complete overhaul. "World's fastest flying sloth" doesn't really work as well.

@Librarian: Ugh, I hate that Tumblr. Just goes to show that all you really have to do to succeed is stamp a fandom name on something...

She could just be Rainbow Dash the world's fastest sloth... and just move like 1.5 times the speed of the others :P

The main cast of Spongebob are sponges, starfish, crabs and squids. We can anthropomorphize anything and get people to watch it.

@Red: Eh, how much effort goes into something is irrelevant as long as the result is entertaining. I have to admit that sometimes the oval ponies thing is amusing despite the lack of real artwork. Stuff like this and this. It's lame, but it's an amusing kind of lame.
