I just dislike the idea of her even being DITZY. because that assumption was made PURELY because of the eyes.

The reason you don't understand it is because you are not a native english speaker. I don't mean to be offensive, it's just that you aren't going to get the whole slang thing. I don't know any... sorry, Polish? Finnish? slang, so I can't really give any equivalent, but as everyone else has been saying, it's essentially naming her idiot.

I wouldn't have a problem with her being a ditz if it wasn't for the eyes. We basically judged her mentality using her EYES as a major ffs, and now we're finding out that it's true

One cute comic I saw was Ditzy explaining why she was walleyed to Dinky: "One eye is always watching you, and the other looks at the world to keep you safe." Or something like that.

To be honest, I've never really associated "derp" with mentally retarded people. I understand that it could be used as slur in that manner, but I don't think I've ever seen it used that way. I've always seen it used in the ways that urban dictionary

defines it. Yeah, it's not the most reliable source, but I wouldn't have pegged "Derpy" as being a slur on the level of "retard".

Yeah, I've always had problems with her been portrayed as any degree of stupid. I've met wall-eyed people before, though, one of whom was a teacher, so it just doesn't have a 'stupid' connection, to me.

I think it would be cute if she was a ditz, but making her a ditz just because of her appearance is wrong.

which is what we did. That's exactly why she's a ditz. We took her appearance, judged it, that interpretation became the general consensus, now that's what's made it into the show

Because the name isn't connected to the eyes directly - yes, wall-eyes are referred to as derp-eyes by some people, but derp doesn't mean wall, it means stupid, or something like that. So if someone is calling her derpy, they aren't calling her wall-eyed. They're calling her stupid - they're just calling her it because of the connection between wall-eyes and stupidity that some people have.
