It's still possible to do a decent-scale pony game provided they keep it quiet throughout the entirety of development. The problem is a solid game will typically take a couple years of development. That means a) we lost all the ones that have been in progress and had groundwork laid since the fandom showed up, b) any new game starting up now will somehow have to fly completely under the radar for another couple years, which is pretty much impossible to do while accumulating staff and testers, especially once the project is in late stages and you naturally lose and gain some (I assure you Hasbro's lawyers have an eye on Equestria Gaming, I mean really now), c) most of our developers have a raging hardon for multiplayer games that will need persistent servers that will immediately get C&D'd after the game comes out, and d) we won't see anything that starts now done for a couple years, likely beyond the end of the series and the fandom starts to disperse.

Even under the best of circumstances, unless the main show has an epically monster run like Spongebob or something, yeah our large-scale fangames are pretty much done. The Western IP gestapo hasn't even lost momentum.

Jumping in a little late on the sun thing, but maybe the reason Celestia needs to raise the sun is because Equestria in its natural state is tidally locked with the sun, and without magical intervention would never spin. So ponies could have evolved in the twilight strip between night and day, until they discovered magic and realized they could greatly expand the livable land by spinning the planet.

Eeeyep!

Wanted to do more, but school and car troubles got in the way. Tomorrow will be more productive hopefully.

Great, so between that and Questria unponying out of fear of C&D, Fighting is Magic and MLP Online getting shot, and Equestria Tales getting preemptively C&D'd for daring to ask official permission, the only pony fangames left are two minute distractions on Deviantart and laggy incoherent Game Maker pieces of shit.

Hey, I think mine is pretty good, even if it is only a small game.

I was thinking that if I were to make a pony game, I'd keep it under wraps until the bulk of the game was done (i.e. all story missions in an open world game, all main levels in a platformer, starter characters in a fighting game), then announce it and start adding the bells and whistles (with any new talent attracted, if applicable). That way, if the game gets Hasbro'd, the community still has a passable game to go out on.

I think I'd try to use a combination of approaches:

1) Make it less obviously Fi M based (don't use the major trademarks)

2)Try to keep it relatively low key

3)Use a development structure that makes it difficult to C&D.

4)If it does get C&D, release it without the art assets or anything else potentially infringeing on the hope that someone will mod it anyway.

Then please do us a favor and finish and submit it. It's exceedingly depressing to watch everything on EQG drop off the map except for those two Game Maker platformers that run slower than Mass Effect, and that one RPG that looks like it was thrown together by a 10-year-old and keeps getting updated with meaningless fluff instead of bothering to tune, optimize, or proofread anything.

For those of you who watch the Nostalgia Critic, he just released his latest review. The reason I bring it up here is because apparently, Satan's daughter watches the show, and her father doesn't seem to like that.[lol]

Oh, the Fridge Brilliance page explains how Chrysalis defeated Celestia.

Celestia cares deeply about her subjects. Celestia was fighting for those she loved and cared about, for those close to her.

Changelings feed off of and are powered by love.

Celestia's emotions in that moment were so powerful, and Chrysalis used that, and oh wow.

[up][up][up] Sorry, Twilight, I don't have enough books for you. You should go to the Library of Congress. You can live with me if you want, but I think the LOC would suit you better than little dinky old me.

Also, from the Fridge Brilliance page

In a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment when Twilight and co. get off the train, Twilight passes a grey unicorn with a white mane and tail who smiles at her when she walks past, but has a disappointed look when she ignores him. He's the same stallion from It's About Time that was happy to see Twilight in the library to the point that he'd open a sealed room for her. It looks like Twilight's idea of not having very many friends before Ponyville isn't held by the ponies she would see on a regular basis.

I've never noticed that guy before.

[up][up]It's not that big a deal. It's the same kind of joke that people will make about the first two seasons of Star Trek: TNG. Only difference is that popular opinion isn't on his side.

So they considered her friends but not vice versa? I can believe that.

In fact, I would love the show to explore that...especially now that Twilight's a Princess.

Yeah, that sounds like a pretty interesting episode, or a fanfic if done correctly. Just a little slice-of-life thing about ponies trying to socialize with Twilight, only to be ignored by her.

Speaking of witch should we cut off all the "fridge" examples that say "Pony X did/did not Y because she the element of Z"? It lead to some Unfortunate Implications which is pointed out on it's Fridge Horror page Manily in this quote:

More Fridge Horror regarding fandom. There are numerous cases where people ask why the heroes do something nice or not do something mean, only to claim Fridge Brilliance because it ties into their Element. What's horrifying is that this means that the viewers see the good that they do is not because they're good people, but rather out of some sense of obligation to fulfill their duties as representative of a cosmic imperative. What's worse is that our heroes fail to live up to their cosmic imperative not infrequently.
