Jumping in a little late on the sun thing, but maybe the reason Celestia needs to raise the sun is because Equestria in its natural state is tidally locked with the sun, and without magical intervention would never spin. So ponies could have evolved in the twilight strip between night and day, until they discovered magic and realized they could greatly expand the livable land by spinning the planet.
Great, so between that and Questria unponying out of fear of C&D, Fighting is Magic and MLP Online getting shot, and Equestria Tales getting preemptively C&D'd for daring to ask official permission, the only pony fangames left are two minute distractions on Deviantart and laggy incoherent Game Maker pieces of shit.
Hey, I think mine is pretty good, even if it is only a small game.
Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.
I was thinking that if I were to make a pony game, I'd keep it under wraps until the bulk of the game was done (i.e. all story missions in an open world game, all main levels in a platformer, starter characters in a fighting game), then announce it and start adding the bells and whistles (with any new talent attracted, if applicable). That way, if the game gets Hasbro'd, the community still has a passable game to go out on.
C'MON AND SLAM! AND WELCOME TO THE JAM!
I think I'd try to use a combination of approaches:
1) Make it less obviously
Fi M based (don't use the major trademarks)
2)Try to keep it relatively low key
3)Use a development structure that makes it difficult to C&D.
4)If it does get C&D, release it without the art assets or anything else potentially infringeing on the hope that someone will mod it anyway.
Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.
For those of you who watch the Nostalgia Critic, he just
released his latest review
. The reason I bring it up here is because apparently, Satan's daughter watches the show, and her father doesn't seem to like that.

@ ATC: Which episode was that? A Canterlot Wedding?
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.
little dinky old me
You don't look anything like Dinky.
You just forgot your one pet name for me, and all those promises you said you'd keep
Yeah, that sounds like a pretty interesting episode, or a fanfic if done correctly. Just a little slice-of-life thing about ponies trying to socialize with Twilight, only to be ignored by her.
