I didn't know that Background Pony had a Fan Nickname. I didn't know the Shining Armor Palette Swap was suppose to be a background pony.
That said, its pretty common to give background ponies past-gen Fan Nicknames, and there were only so many male ponies in previous gens. Nightlight, the Fan Nickname for Twilight's dad, belonged to a G1 mare.
You just forgot your one pet name for me, and all those promises you said you'd keep

Though given my reactions to Romance Reports and Fallout: Equestria, whether I like anything is a bit of a crapshoot. On that note, there are a lot of people who will recommend Romance Reports if you ask them about good ponyfic. I honestly have no idea why.
I thought Romance Reports was kinda crap too, so at least you're not alone on that one.
if you want a longish story on the epic side of things, then I'd recommend The Powers of Harmony.
Fair warning, it has serious pacing problems. It takes some 15 chapters and 200, 000 words to bother getting into the conflict.

The Powers of Harmony is okay, but yeah, it has some serious issues. I'd recommend CRISIS Equestria before that if you're looking for that kind of thing. Or Harmony Theory (which everyone should check out because it's awesome/fanboy mode)
The Archer and the Smith and The Heart Thief are also really good stories by the same author, thogh set in a different fallen Equestria.
It Takes A Villiage is really good, as is Its A Dangerous Business Going Out Your Door so I second those.
Also, My Little Alicorn,
IMO, Symphony for Moon and Sun justifis the entre Lunaverse by itself.
The Worst Bakers In Equestria.

It's A Dangerous Business was good but, bloody hell, the author needed to be more subtle about how much he loves Tolkien. It got really distracting after a while.
I'm so hip, I have trouble seeing over my own pelvis. I'm so cool, you could keep a side of meat in me for a month.
