for our little show. I'm confused, I thought that was for series that have ended... What's the requirement for having one? Or is there no requirement and I'm just greatly confused, as usual?

I think the biggest shocker is that Hasbro allowed a 100+ page novel to be marketed to children. Even given expectations of bronies chipping in, that's pretty darn unusual confidence in the intelligence and attention span of kids. Here's hoping it sells well enough to encourage it.
