Plus you have to admit The City of Lot sounds kinda badass.
Speaking of cool names, I know there were several people here who enjoyed the idea of each country having it's own special artifact - did anyone ever have any ideas for any? I ask because I've just been reading
Sandman, and it's given me an idea for a couple.
In my version of the ponyverse there's a country called The Passlands - it's a narrow stretch of valley that splits an enormous mountain range that divides the continent. In ages passed, this valley was the only way to cross between the north and the south. Therefore, much of it's first years were wrought with war. Warriors from the continent across would come to join the battle, hoping to curry favour with the winners, or at least be a part of the grand and epic battles that were waged there, spreading fame of it's champions to the far edges of pony's minds. In the days the gods came it fell under the rule of Stern Ferghus of Steel, and Mighty Roderik of Stone, who(though Ferghus was very warlike himself, and much against the suggestion) ended the war. All who fought there became citizens of The Passlands. In these modern days, all enmity from the war has long since faded, but the stories and traditions remain. The Passlands is a place of art: Music, dances, and tales told from all around the world(Indeed, you shall be wont to find any Passlander who will not give you a bed and a meal in exchange for nothing more than a story).
Ahem. Scene setting aside, with that sort of culture I've had a couple of ideas for artifacts: The first is
The Infinite Chapter(Which for those who have read sandman should be easy to guess the inspiration of, and those who haven't should read it anyways). Strictly speaking it's not a book of
everything every thing, but it does contain every story ever told and every story that will ever be told.
The second, perhaps more interesting, would be The Sword That Tells Stories - a blade at the center of the long war in Passlandic history, that absorbed all it had witnessed. The wielder of the sword can do... something. I haven't quite decided. Perhaps weave any story they know into reality, perhaps summon the spirits of those who fell in the great battles. Perhaps both - perhaps the specters of warriors passed will act out the stories of the wielder. At either rate in this case the two gods would use the power of the sword to put on great shows at yearly festivals.
