Yeah, would prefer any story arcs be rather minor things, a few small bits in the episdoes, without the whole episdoe being about it. Like Twi's magical growth this season.
@Calnos: It really depends on the type of show. This one has been so slice of life based that too much continuity would throw it off. I'm all for having references to prior episodes, but I prefer that they be self-contained.
Yeah, maybe like Season 1 where there are a small handful of episodes with an overall story arc through out the season. But most being self contained.
They had minor continuity in Season 1, remember the Grand Galloping Gala "arc"?
Yes but that was only 3 episodes (plus the dress cameos). It became a lot more noticeable in season 2.
Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.
Season 3 has been a festival of continuity.
Yeah, but even then it's not quite required to have watched previous episodes aside from the two-parters. I mean, it's entirely possible to watch Magic Duel without having seen Boast Busters and still know what's going on.
I'd say season 3 is pretty tough to watch if you haven't seen anything previously. A lot of the episodes assume you know how the characters interact and a lot of the more emotional connection is lost if you don't. In particular KCAFO can't really be watched without seeing the Return of Harmony. With each season it's getting less accessible though not impossible to watch.
"Welcome. You have entered the cranial vistas of psychogenesis. This is the place of no-time and no-space. Do not be afraid."
KCAFO is somewhat watchable if you haven't seen the earlier episode (Thank you Exposition Rainbow Dash), but it does suffer if you hadn't seen how Discord interacted with each of them.
Why oh why can't you guys just say episode names instead of using acronyms.
I really don't see how more continuity and less accessibility is a bad thing, from the point of view of someone who doesn't have to rely on syndicated episodes. I've never understood people who come in on the third of something (Halo 3 is another good example) and complain about not understanding what's going on. Read/play/watch the two installments you skipped, dumbass!
Won't be online for a while due to the holidays. Stay safe, happy and warm!
Oh... I forgot to ask... does seeing Rainbow Dash with her father prettymuch Joss the Pegasi have no parents thing?
^Was that ever an actual thing? I thought it was just an in-joke.

It's Orion with a silly haircut.
@Red: I've never understood that either. I mean, even if you don't want to take the time to play through it or whatever it isn't that hard to look up a plot summary or something. But yeah, with a show like this there's no real reason not to watch all the episodes. If you like season 3, you'll probably like the earlier episodes.
Orion has aged pretty well then if that was him back when RD was just a little one.
