Why didn't they just reuse the same scene?
Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.

@storyyeller: I'm not sure what scene you're referring to but maybe because they wanted to show it from another character's point of view? Maybe they didn't want the same kind of complaints like how I remember there being at least a few complaints when Just In Time aired and the scene where Twilight meets her future self is shown twice with no POV alterations.

Regarding this, I'd personally switch Celestia and Twilight. As an INTJ myself, I'm way more like Twilight than like Celestia.

@J Teeth: No wonder we tend to agree on things regarding this show, we're both the same type!

Why didn't they just reuse the same scene?
I would guess that they blocked out the scene for "Just for Sidekicks" first, then when they got to the same scene in "Games Ponies Play" they realized that Dash and Twi had a conversation so they needed to be next to each other. Either they forgot to change "Just for Sidekicks" to match, or by that point it was too late to change it.

And, since today is apparently National Jump To Conclusions Day...

Agreed with swapping Twi and Celestia, and also, yup INTJ here as well.

No clue. way to early to even try guessing.

but I will say, my hopes are not high. yes it COULD be good, but, given it's the writers and people the make the show that make it so awesome, and they aren't involved at all, not hopeful.

Sereg understands the importance of puns ;)

I'm really quite amazed at this threads ability to just take this whole thing in stride and positively speculate about even the most hair-brained ideas.

Its because, as tropers we (I hope) all understand that Tropes Are Not Bad.

Also its kinda hard to be cynical when people slowy but surely put out cute fanart.

[up][up] And how do we know if the writers aren't involve the only one ho said he didn't know anything is M.A Larson. but there's still Mhegan, Polsky, Williams (Granted if ether of those become head writers then the spinoff preemptively Jumped The shark). Besides Maybe Hasbro wants to keep the writers a surprise and asked Larson to troll the base or something.

Would there be as much controversy if it was the Mane Six as squirrels in high school?

@JT and Seraph: Mastermind-type high-five!

That said, considering how little we've seen of Celestia it's impossible to know exactly what she's like and how much she fits the bill. She's damn good at planning, sure, but it's all long-term and seems to work out fine. Hard to tell how good she is at contingency plans, which are sort of INTJ's specialty.

So yeah, gonna third Twilight being INTJ.

@Kegisak: Brohoof.

Anyway, I think the threads' greatest strength in reacting to the news is the fact that a lot of people are more willing to just go "Okay, not what I would have done, but let's see how it goes" rather than expecting it conform to our expectations. I mean, I'm kinda skeptical myself, but no amount of complaining is going to change what they have planned, so I figure I might as well just go with the flow and get what I can out of it.

Well Polsky wouldn't be to bad. He's great at comedy, does some good stuff, he just tends to not notice the Unfortunate Implications in his work.

Williams, yeah, no.

This all brings up an interesting point - Who's idea was this? Did someone pitch this to Hasbro? It had to have been in the works for a while, and Hasbro said they were doing a lot of market research.

When they made the decision to reboot MLP, they just asked Lauren Faust (after she herself pitched an original IP with teenagers, does Irony apply here?) to come up with the new characters, designs, and universe, with some Executive Meddling during the development process. Did Hasbro make the decision one day basically saying "We want a My Little Pony spinoff that appeals to teenagers" and then find someone to pitch their ideas for a High School AU?

The development process for this new spinoff must be interesting, to say the least. I really want to know how Hasbro came to the conclusion that taking the Pony out of My Little Pony will make them more money. [lol]

[up]It's not very hard to think that Hasbro came up with this themselves by just looking at Disney's success with that demographic. If you look at the shows that are successful, they are primarily not fantasy shows and usually involve teenagers in a typical slice of life situation, such as High School. So it wouldn't surprise me if Hasbro thought they could take these characters who are successful and put them in a format that is more appealing to the demographic that they are aiming at.

[up]On the other hand they could have also looked at things like Twilight witch is equally popular with that demographic and is an Urban Fantasy. As is Monster High witch will be the spin-off's main competition toy-wise

EDIT:this isn't helping is it?

I wonder if the humanized show will have any references to the bronies? Kind of like the scene where Big Macintosh is seen with the Smarty Pants doll, only he's Applejack's human brother playing with a pony doll or something.

[up][up]Perhaps Harry Potter would have been a better comparison (though that has a much broader demographic), but I do understand what you are getting at, and an Urban Fantasy series is also a viable possibility for that sort of demographic. I'm just uncertain as to whether they will go that route and if they want to compete with Monster High (has no idea what that is).
