Well that was random.
Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.

So I just realized, there's actually a good explanation for changelings to have holes.
Electric charge tends to find natural equilibrium by gathering most strongly in edges and points to minimize repulsive forces across the rest of the object. If magic follows similar tendencies, a layered carapace riddled with holes is an extremely efficient way to cause powerful natural foci across the surface of the body to aid transformation magic.

She's so adorable she doesn't even have to aim her sadface at you.

(puts on pretension glasses)
Well, I would assume the image refers to Applejack feeling "rooted down" to her home and her job and how such a thing could cause anyone of us to fall into a rut, or in this case, get quite literally stuck to one spot.
I'm not Jesus Christ. I've come to accept that now.

If you want to get really pretentious, she wound up in Dante's Hell for suicide.

I didn't even talk about how the apple represents blossoming female sexuality.
My pretension wasn't strong enough.
