@Kyler: That's got me wondering. Is there any other TV show fandom where watching an episode live is such a communal event? Like, not just posting in forums while you watch on your own TV but actually gathering in one (or several, as it were) livestreams to watch it together?

edve, I'm not sure about all of the specifics exactly, but certain reality shows like Survivor and The Amazing Race, for their season finales at least, have large conventions where people gather together and can watch and can even meet and greet with people that were on the show or involved with it.
