The opening theme better not suck.

Wouldn't everyone keep their names in the dub? They would just be written in katakana.

Also, what's "Friendship is Magic" in Japanese? I know "My Little Pony" would also be in katakana because it was in Japan under the katakana name.
Be careful around me. I ask too many questions.

You know how the Italian dub has an anime opening? Hopefully they can do something like that.

Yeah, I agree with Waxing Name regarding name changes. I know the German dub keeps the names as-is and I'm fairly sure all the other dubs do the same, so I don't see why they'd really change names.

Wait, do you mean keeping the same as in it translated the names literally, or it actually uses the English names? Because I know the previous gens translated the names.

[up]Keeping the English names, just write them in katakana to guide Japanese people on how to pronounce them.

For example (using romaji):

  • Twilight Sparkle -> Towairaito Supaakuru
  • Rainbow Dash -> Reinbo(u) Dasshi

I hope I'm doing it right.

Say, do you guys remember back when we were discussing "Wonderbolt Academy, " we talked about how women are banned from serving in most combat roles in the U.S. military? Well, today, it was announced that they're overturning that.

That appears to be what they're doing. They're sticking with direct translations into katakana.

Twilight = トワイライトスパークル

Rarity = ラリティー

AJ = アップルジャック

Dash = レインボーダッシュ

Fluttershy = フラッタシャイ

Pinkie = ピンキーパイ

Spike = スパイク

Princess Celestia = セレスティア王女, セレスティア様 (Celestia-oujo or Celestia-sama. Celestia-hime seems to be out of the question, at least for the JPN fansubbers, but I don't know what the difference is. Luna gets the same titles.)

And the title is given as マイリオルポニー トモダチは魔法My Little Pony: Tomodachi wa Mahou.

If your fanon leads to unfortunate implications that could not possibly be canon truth in the context of the show, your fanon is wrong.

About time. I'm surprised they didn't do it before.

Onto a different subject: Which popular Japanese clothing lines would the Mane Six wear?

I just came across this trope. I wonder if that's what Apple Family Reunion was going for.

Afternoon folks. I see Japan is getting some official pony translations. Cant wait to see what sort of merch they get to go along with it, though I don't look forward to having to decide if shipping fees are worth whatever shiny toys they get.

Ha ha. I don't even have enough money to buy all of the domestic ones that I want, let alone trying to import Japanese ones.

I don't normally buy toys in the first place.

Oh, they had better not make Japan exclusive toys; I'm too cheap for that.

The way merchandising works in Japan, there will most certainly be Japan-only toys. And they will probably be better than ours.

The EQD article mentions that they will be marketing some of the merch towards middle school through college age, so they will definitely be getting cool stuff that we can't afford.

We've got a bunch of European tropers on here, right? What's the merch situation over there? Do you have mostly the same stuff America does?

Is it weird that talk about the Japanese getting products aimed at an older audience kind of scares me?

[down]I'm pretty sure those already exist unofficially.
