@Syd: I have my own issues with that episode that have nothing to do with RL history. In fact, I think dragging RL stuff into that episode is kind of ridiculous because it's obvious that they just utilized the aesthetics, and the actual behavior of the involved groups isn't at all comparable to how the real life events played out.
This. Polsky's other issue is too much slapstick. Then, I found the conflict less engaging than other episode, the mane characters felt like guests in another show, the
O Cs were less interesting than we're used to, the conflict was completely unbalanced but treated as though it wasn't... The similarities to my own continent's
modern issues just made it
even more sour. I felt no effect from the American history.
Similarly, Feeling Pinkie Keen was excessively cruel to Twilight.
Too Many Pinkie Pie's may be a result of
Unfortunate Implications, but they are too in my face for someone who has studied Genetics and as such had to learn the ethics of genetics. Did you know that we need to go to the ethics board whenever we work with human DNA for
any reason? And that we need permits to work with any transgenic DNA from any organism? This was so insanely far out of what I've been trained to consider ethical, I was horrified.
EDIT:
Friendship Is Dragons isn't
bad, but I agree that it could have been improved and that that suggestion would have helped. OOTS is awesome and yeah, updated twice recntly.
