I asked this before, but what if their special connection to the earth allowed eps to develop the equivalent of physic powers? Not Telekenisis of course, but other powers like hypnoses, telepathy or clairvoyance?

@Apple: That would explain Pinkie sense, but we really haven't seen it in any other pony. If that were a thing, Twilight would have brought it up when trying to figure out how Pinkie Sense works instead of claiming it was impossible.

Well Eagel good thing you're only halfway through season 1 while it's fresh, because the rest of us are in a drought waiting for the next episode, which isn't for two weeks.

Surprised to find any Rarity people, I find her to be the least interesting personally, ...only just starting to want her back since this current season (3) is the first one where she is noticeably Out of Focus.

P.S. What are your thoughts on the Cutie Mark Crusaders?

@Terl: Actually, Rarity has quite a few fans here. I personally think she's second best pony after Twilight. I like her because she's the most self aware about her own flaws; she can be jealous, shallow, and prissy, but she knows she has those tendencies and often actively tries to overcome them. Part of the reason Sisterhooves Social is one of my favorite episodes is because Rarity realized her issues and decided to make amends without anyone else having to pressure her into it.

So the theory now is that Pinkie Pie's a mutant? Makes sense, bet she's glad that Ponyville isn't located in the Marvel universe or her friends would have disowned her the moment they found out.

I don't like Pinkie's powers explicitly being based on Rule of Funny because when you're told something is funny, it often isn't.

Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.

My rule of thumb for Pinkie's power is that it's only literal if it has major plot significance. For example, stuff like her growing extra hooves in A Friend In Deed isn't because it has no importance to the plot outside of facilitating the sight gag. Same for the "be in two places at once" jokes and such.

And notice too that Dashie's powers can fall under rule of funny too. Or rule of cool...like the burning rainbow trails.

I'd go do the same for a pony of strength. Have them perform Popeye like feats of strength like punching things so hard they turn into something else.

The Earth Pony tribe's "connection to the earth" is more along the lines of a connection to the universe itself. Thus, it can manifest as subtle, time-related powers. However, this happens so rarely that there's no scholarly documentation of the subject.

Pinkie Sense is one manifestation of this. Time Turner's abilities are another example.

So does that mean Loki is Pinkie's Granny Pie?

I'll buy that speculation, but without Time Turner. Outside of fanon we've really only seen him turn an hourglass. Doesn't really need special time powers.
