Didn't MADTV do an MLP spoof? It was more general franchise stuff than specifically FIM, but I'm pretty sure the word "bronies" appeared in it somewhere. So far I think that this

might be the most mainstream reference to the show.

Those skits are all kinds of ridiculous, but I guess that's the point. What took the cake for me, though, was Tara Strong working with MAD so that we got the real deal Twilight Sparkle voice in there.

Yea. I remember her saying in an interview somewhere that MAD goes to her rather often for voice work. Which worked out perfectly for the two pony skits.
