@Kayeka, re: demographics: Um. In terms of ratings, I'm pretty sure it is. I can't speak to merchandise revenue, but...
Edit: Bluh, boring pagetopper.

I think EQ put up a post where Hasbro discussed their finances a while back. That would be worth checking.

I'm sorry, I feel really bad that whenever someone says "Hasbro" I immediatly imagine a shadowy conference room full of dark figures wearing shiny glasses

I still say that was Doctor Whoof playing the banjo on stage with Palette Swap!Octavia. Oh sure, you could say it was a Palette Swap of one of Octavia's bandmates like the rest of the band, but he had the Doctor's color scheme! Eye color & tail color, and you couldn't see the cutie mark!

@CDRW: I vaguely remember that. If I have it right, MLP is the most popular show on the Hub, and it's drawing in numbers comparable to those of other, more well known networks, which is impressive considering that the Hub isn't exactly exactly a major channel, even on cable.
Misaimed Fandom is probably the closest trope I can think of, although it doesn't really fit. That trope is more about the fans latching onto something that they weren't supposed to like than about intended demographics vs Periphery Demographic.
That would be more like if the entire fanbase thought Discord was absolutely awesome and was way better than the ponies.
Yeah I remember that too, about how they were now able to directly compete with channels like Cartoon Network and Disney.

Welcome! You should tell us the story of how you too were assimilated.

Welcome to the herd. Don't worry about being new, I just checked in last Sunday myself.
And watched every single episode that was available.
Calvin: I kind of resent the manufacturer's implicit assumption that this would amuse me.

If you begin to feel a strange tingling feeling in your hollow chest, do not be alarmed. It is merely the Magic of Friendship taking hold.

Would you say the Periphery Demographic for this show outweighs the Primary demographic by this point?
We can't really measure it, can we?

It's hard to say; especially as the two groups are going to approach the show in radically different manners. I seriously doubt that the primary demographic is as diehard about it as the bronies; there aren't going to be little girls holding countdowns to new episodes, or writing five-page-long reviews analyzing the plot when it comes out. They probably think of it as more along the lines of "Oh, I like this show".

I've actually done that. I've forced my younger sis to watch the show.

I'm going to spring this on my older sister next time I see her. She was a big fan of older pony shows, and I'm sure that the pure nostalgia lols she will get from the news that there is a new series (that is incredibly popular on the net) should be enough to keep her down for the twenty minutes required to watch an episode.

One of my customer-friends is a fellow brony. Since he plays EVE Online, he should join a Brony corp or alliance.
