The zebras were usually smart IMO. The ponies made lots of mistakes though. Most were admittedly understandable, but it was pretty stupid to make all of them.

They could have done something more character focused (say, Twi goes back to her parents' place for a few nights) and just let the holiday bum around in the background. I can see why they would choose not to repeat seasonal events, though.

I'd be fine with pegasi being traditionally raised communally or something. I just don't see any evidence for or against it.

I'm leaning towards the Pegasi have no families idea. The three pegasi we do know, RD, Fluttershy and Scootaloo have never mentioned mother, father, siblings, etc that I can recall.

I've always imagined them as being something like the Spartans, all the little foals are raised in a communal creche and never know their real parents. They are cared for by all the adults in a community.
