In D&D 3.5ed, classes are commonly rated in tiers from 1 to 6 on the basis of power and versatility. Tier 3 is generally considered the sweetspot since they don't break the game like a Tier 1 (Wizard, Cleric) and aren't completely useless like a Tier 5 (Fighter, Monk). Though it doesn't really matter as long as everyone in the party is on roughly the same tier.

Despite the traditional derision for bards and jokes about how they are useless, they are actually tier 3, making them more powerful or versatile than many of the traditional classes including Rouge, Barbarian, Ranger, Fighter, Monk, and Paladin.

I also vote for pronking.

My headcanon on unicorn schooling is that there are no mandatory classes for unicorns. It's limited to the aristocracy or the extremely rich.

In comparison flight and basic weather training is offered to every pegasus free of charge partly as a hold over from the days where every pegasus was trained to fight and partly because weather is the field most pegasi go into. For Earth Ponies I haven't put an extreme amount of thought into it but I figure some form of apprentice scheme.

And of course there is the mandatory general schooling we see with Cheerilee.

Unicorn Schooling is limited generally to what the truly studious can glean from libraries or willing tutors, outside of the old institutions of Canterlot. Some travelling "unlicensed" Unicorn practicioners seek apprentices to teach their own secrets.

Most unicorns don't mind just having telekinesis taught to them by their parents and the scant handful of spells they pick up alongside their talent.

Strictly speaking, Earth Ponies have a more rounded education provided by teachers like Cheerilee, after which many ponies seek apprenticeship if they desire specific skills.`

Twi is a stickler for proper theory knowledge before going to practical.

I'd guess there are probably some basic unicorn classes (TK 101 or something), but yeah, after the high-school equivalent they're probably expected to take the initiative themselves.

My fanon is that there is a major Trade University in Manehatten that is run by Earth Ponies but accepts any race for learning. It's more of a trade/industry school.

I could dig a travelling band of unicorns who wander the land in search of new and unusual magics.

I just realized that Trixie should be a Beguiler. No wonder she feels inferior to Twilight.
