@Bad You're putting words in our mouths. Shooting stars are almost always symbolic unless they are a plot point. It's not arbitrary at all.

It's a bit embarrassing that I can never catch these metaphors and symbols on my own. I'm just way more attuned to characterization cues than random symbolism.

@Bad: Oh come on, don't give me that. Not everything is symbolic all the time, some things have different uses. Shooting stars for example can be used simply as a romantic backdrop, no symbolism required. But its usually pretty obvious how something is being used. In this case its symbolic. The fact that it isn't always symbolic isn't a contradiction, just the writers using it a different way.

@AJ parents: I've always assumed they were dead, just because logically they should have shown up by now since the Apple Family is kind of a big part of the show. I don't think the stars definitely prove anything though.
