If they don't show up, and no mention of them is made, I think we can safely assume that they're either dead or just not around. There's no other explanation for such important members of a family unit not being in attendance at a family reunion to be something not remotely noteworthy to those involved.

If there's ever an episode where their absence will be explained, though, it's this one.

@ Apple, that's kind of how it looks like it'll go based on the synopsis. Granny lets her take charge of planing it, and she gets a bit to desperate for ti to be perfect

really hope we actually see some of the other Apples we met, Breaburn needs more screen time.

I'm guessing at this point they probably wouldn't bring them up; they're absence is conspicuous enough that they'd have to spend a fair bit of time explaining where they were, and unless they dedicate a big chunk of the episode to it I doubt they'd introduce them.

Didn't Lauren Faust say that she wanted AJ's parents to be dead, and wrote the show that way? They just never explicitly mentioned AJ's parents because she didn't think the execs would let them get away with it in a kids' show.

Of course, if it's not in the show, it's not canon. But if the above is correct, then the current showrunners will have their work cut out for them if they do want AJ's parents to be alive.

Depends on who's selling the story. Disney's got no problem making their child protagonists orphans.

Applejack's parents went to Apploosa to help in constructing the settlement right after Apple Bloom was born, but they were tragically killed by scorpions. Really, really, BIG scorpions.

Hah, I just found out that the Company I'm contracted to is going to be paying me for the time off at christmas(The studio is closing for two weeks).

It says a lot about the company I actually work for that th most exciting thing that's happened to me in weeks is that I'm getting paid, though.

I don't have a problem with them being orphans. I'm just not assuming anything on the part of the canon in this case, especially since we're coming up on the perfect opportunity for them to be introduced or explained.
