[up][up][up]Oh, it would almost certainly make me cry, too.sad

But still, I can't really think of a more appropriate ending to a show that centers around six friends.

Come to think of it, do we have a trope for that? Closest I can find is this, but that's not quite the same thing.

Yeah, that type of ending would be quite bittersweet, but it would be entirely fitting. I honestly couldn't think of a more appropriate way to end it. The message that you can't always stay as close to people as you would like is painful, but it's one that would be good to have. Especially if it's tempered with the idea that you can still remain friends as well as make new ones.

[up]Well, I mean the breaking up of a group. That's the closest I can find, but that's specific to a group that was formed for a specific purpose, and once that purpose is fulfilled the group goes their seperate ways.

Definitely agree that the Mane Six going their separate ways would make a good final episode.

It would be nice to end the episode with Twilight arriving at her new home and immediately hitting off with one of the locals—implying that, with everything she's learned about friendship, Twi's not going to have problems making new friends.

Or there could be a Flash Forward to five or ten years later, and show the Mane Six meeting up in Ponyville for one of their regular reunions.

[up][up] Yeah, that trope would have been if, in the first season, Twilight was all "good job beating Nightmare Moon, guys, I'm going to go back to Canterlot and be a shut-in again!"

If/when they do end this Generation, I would not be opposed to G5 being set in the same universe following a time skip. With the CMCs as the main characters, perhaps?

Really, Equestria isn't so big that it would be hard for them to all meet up regularly. Canterlot is within view of Ponyville, and is where Twilight and possibly Rarity would probably end up. Dash I'd assume would travel a fair bit with the Wonderbolts, so she could see her friends whenever she passes through the area. AJ and Fluttershy I don't really see leaving Ponyville, and I have no idea where Pinkie would go off to. So yeah, having them split up at the end would be a bit sad, but not too sad because we know they'll still see each other regularly. Kind of like the Azumanga Daioh ending.

And I bet the last scene would be a photo of Mane Six together smiling, ending it off with an epic yet sad orchestra rendition of the show's main theme.

Probably better to skip to enitrely new characters like Legend Of Korra.
Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.

@Ace: Speaking of that scene, did anyone else think that Spitfire was a bit too harsh? I mean yeah, reprimand or demote her fine, but kicking her out? You had been encouraging her up to that point.

The CMC's grandkids. tongue

[up] I don't think she was at the scene of the crime (so to speak), she only heard about the pair beating all the academy's previous records.

@Kyler's Survey I might post something in the thread like "Uh, I may be seeing things, but I think Pinkie's outside my house poking the ground and making frowny faces. What should I do?"

I'd honestly prefer to see gen 5 move to a new setting, if only to see how they'd handle similar characterizations in a different cosmology.

Of course, I also wouldn't be opposed to a gen 4.5 that's set in Equestria, although I'd also prefer that the cast be all new characters. It would make it more of it's own thing than a spinoff.
