@Calnos: Wait, it makes sense. Dream Valley takes place in ancient Russia/Siberia equiv, with Firefly heading West to seek help. Windigos forced the Three Tribes to flee across the frozen Alaska into what would be North America, through the Frozen North. Modern Equestria is pre-Industrial revolution.
