If I did get superpowers, I'd probably use them primarily for Mundane Utility. Not that I wouldn't stop a mugger or whatever if I saw one on the street, but I'm not the type of guy to stalk around in back alleys looking for trouble.
If I got superpowers, I'd probably reveal them and allow the scientific community at large to study them (and, hopefully, either reverse-engineer them or at least understand a little how they work). I mean, for example, just think of the potential applications of Super Strength to muscle degenerative disorders...

The implications and the potential applications of something like that would be far too important for me to goof around playing caped crusader (which is something I probably wouldn't enjoy anyway). I only hope I'd manage to find a way to guarantee that I am not kept prisoner and that forces the results not to be kept hidden...

But they seem to know where they are going, the ones who walk away from Omelas.

As long as you balance out the uniqueness with (interesting) flaws, you should be fine.

If you want to be cheesy, take a look at the Perfectly Balanced Dragon Magazine flaws.

Same here. This is a thing that bothers me with a lot of superheroes. At least they handwaved it in the Iron Man movie with the whole evil people stealing his tech and using it for evil thing.

@ Con

He's a serious, driven guy, but he does know how to enjoy himself. Large Ham when excited, with sweeping hoof gestures and the like. He's also a bit fussy. Comically Serious is the word.

@ story

What's that.

I don't know about you guys, but I hope King Sombra makes a comeback in some form.

Why? Well, I see him as the pony equivalent of Diablo. evil grin Consider this:

  1. In the first Diablo, Diablo the Lord of Terror was the Final Boss. But despite having his name as the title, he was never mentioned until close to the very end of the game. Unlike the other bosses and characters of the game, he doesn't say anything to you. He just attacks you instead, and it comes off as rather jarring. Indeed, so little information was given on the character at the time that he was no more than a Generic Doomsday Villain.
  2. In the second game Diablo II, Diablo is once again the final boss, until his brother Baal became this in Lord Of Destruction. A lot more information is revealed on the Lord of Terror, and it turns out that he played you like a violin in the first game, and he does the same in the second game. This time, he says one thing to you: "Not even death can save you from me!" This proves that he can talk, but he apparently prefers not to.
  3. In the third game Diablo III, Diablo does not appear until the very end. In fact, it turns out that he has a backup plan, one that would allow him to come back in 20 years even after getting killed off...and become more powerful than ever. He uses his daughter Leah as a host body along with six other powerful demons, and invades Heaven itself. It initially looks like he'll win again, just as he always has. But you'll notice that he is extremely chatty this time around, and it turns out that he, the Lord of Terror, is terrified of you. He'll end up flying into a Villainous Breakdown, and you will finally have the satisfaction of crushing him flat. However, there is the question of whether he is gone for good, or if he will return....

I'm pointing all this out, because King Sombra makes me think of Diablo. If Sombra comes back, I bet we'll find out quite a bit about him. <Nervous>
Oh, Equestria, we stand on guard for thee!

Yeah, Sombra may have been kind of generic as far as villains go, but he was very cool.

Good characters have flaws! Flaws are important.

Flaws are your friends.

Flaws also do not return your calls.

If I got super powers, I'd try to keep them as far away as possible from anyone, especially scientists. I mean, sure, so much good could come out of being able to reproduce such abilities, but I'm pretty sure the biggest way it would influence the world would be by warfare.

I'd do what good I could, but I just wouldn't let anyone touch me with the intention to study.

Incidentally, I need to go to work in roughly 6 hours. I might want to go get some sleep in.

Red Bull: it's both disgusting and fucks up your sleeping patterns.

Just be sure to make that apparent, then. Telling us a character's personality is all well and good, but making it clear in the context of the narrative is another thing entirely.

When I'm writing a character, the flaws are the first things I consider.

I think they're the most interesting thing about a person.

There's something wrong with everybody.

Afternoon, folks. How did people like the episode? I was working, so I missed out on all the live reactions. I really liked it. I'm glad this season Dash is emphasizing her positive traits a lot more.

Also, do we really still not know what next weeks episode is? What's up with that?

I don't mind going into an episode blind, I just think its odd when every other episode we've had a description about a month in advance. It makes me wonder if they're holding back for a reason.

It could be because something extra special awesome is going to happen, or it could just be a matter of circumstance.
