Last season Derpy was literally being shoe-horned into every episode, even when there were no other background ponies ("May The Best Pet Win", for example). I don't think they ever said she would be in every season 3 episode, but its clear they don't want to shoe-horn her into every episode now controversy or not. I wouldn't be surprised if her "absence" is going to lead up to some epic gag in the Season 3 finale.

I can't say I'm happy about the lack of Derpy in season 3, but at the same time, she's just as prominent as ever in pretty much all the other merchandise, and the fandom won't let her go anywhere, so I'm not too worried about it.

I don't believe the reddit post, it sounds like just a bunch of negative predictions of what people are worried might happen.

But in the case of Derpy I think those worries happen to have some truth to them. I don't blame the studio for backing away. They gave the fans what they wanted and they got burned for it. Now they're likely to be more careful.

@dRoy: I hope it wasn't OUR gulag.

@Irish: It grows and shrinks based on activity levels. What is contained within the house is determined by the conversation at hand and whatever is funniest for it to have at the current moment.

But it always has a bar and a bartender who never leaves. The gulag is for our enemies.
