Petty pricks.

Why? There aren't any spoilers here.

My thoughts, and I had to go trough a lot of raging first.

MMDW: Hmmmm, serious negative Out of Character tendencies for every character but most egergiously Fluttershy and Scootaloo? Check. Hypocrisy since all the mane cast got cocky despite trying to teach RD not to be? Check. Them totally making fun of RD? Check. The checklist for unpleasantness everywhere is check off

Final Grade: F

HWE: This one was actually good, even if it is a Mind Screw trying to fit in with Discord and Nightmare Moon. Great character acting from the Mane Cast, great narration from Spike, not a bad Breather Episode at all

Final Grade: A-

DQ: Lets see Ponies display Fantastic Racism while trying to compliment Spike? Check. Dropped ideas everywhere? Check. Using one random group of teenages as a judge of all dragon-kind, especially ones that like to troll therefore failing logic? Check. Phoenix egg theft? Check. Unintentionally writing Spike into becoming a Boomerang Bigot? Check. The checklist for even more unpleasantness? Check-a-rooni!

Final Grade: F

I credit the other episode in season 2 to Charlotte Fullerton, she wrote the blueprint to it.

And I haven't seen WA all the way yet.

MMDW works better if you pretend there were Time Skips between each scene.

How was Scootaloo out of character? Worshiping Rainbow Dash is pretty much her primary character trait.

Dragon Quest was pretty good. It's not everyday you get a heavy metal soundtrack in a little girl's show.

Maybe that's why? If you'll recall in MMDW she went over to Team Mare Do Well.

@Story: Unfortunately, there was no indication of that. I totally agree it would have been better if there had been though. There was the core of a good idea there, but the execution was lacking. Like I could totally believe that the cast could decide "Okay, RD is going to hurt someone if we don't intervene. How do we do so without hurting her" and then later realizing "Crap, we made it worse, time to pull the plug". And I can believe that it's possible for RD to get so wrapped up in her ego that she stops prioritizing safety, but only if it's clear that her ego is being built up over a decent period of time rather than going into showboating mode after like a day.

Basically, the casts' actions could have been in character if they would have been adequately explained, and it's possible to interpret the episode in a way that's in character for everyone. The problem is that since none of that explanation actually occurs in the episode, it's up for the viewer to fill in the gaps.

Every episode had good points. The music was awesome, but I don't watch the show for the music.

I actually did like Dragon Quest all the way through, the music was just my favorite thing about the episode.

And the phoenixes. Phoenixes are cool.

On the upside, our writers haven't stooped to creating a Unicron Singularity event

Okay sorry, but that scene sticks out like a sore thumb after watching "Sleepless in Ponyville" and "The Cutie Mark Chronicles". The Scootaloo we all know and love would never ditch Rainbow Dash!

She's a little girl, they do stuff like that all the time. It was just a phase.

She wasn't out of character cause she kept the same personality and the same tendency to latch onto a hero and worship them. She just shifted to a new one. That's perfectly understandable.

Can we drop the subject of MMDW here? No one's going to change their opinions of it, and it's been talked about to death.

I really did like Dragon Quest, though, but what do I know.

Why would you want to stop people from having discussions? If you don't want to talk about it just don't get involved.

What did you like about Dragon Quest, btw, I haven't seen many others who liked it.

Because people are starting to get angry. Calm discussions are fine, but this doesn't seem to be a discussion that can remain calm.

There are certain things you don't want to poke with a stick when they're already dead.

This, pretty much. Scoots also didn't seem to realise she was hurting Dash's feelings which is in character for her.

He was angry when he first came into the thread to post; that's not our fault.

I have a new topic, then! Seeing that picture of Rarity and Thunderlane made me think, could a winged unicorn result from such a pairing between a pegasus and a unicorn? I would imagine that it would be most likely that the offspring would be one or the other, but maybe there are rare cases where a pony inherits both the wings and horn. I know that kind of happens in one fanfic, though, where Twilight and Rainbow Dash get a kid through a mirror that gives them a winged unicorn baby.

Too bad we don't have any canon pegasus/unicorn parents to use as an example, though. I guess it made me wonder if all winged unicorns were like the princesses or if there could be some that were more like regular ponies but were just both types, like they would just have regular flying abilities and regular magic abilities.

I don't think there are any racial hybrids. Just Unicorns, Earth Ponies, and Pegasi.

Alicorns are a whole different thing and have to either be bred from 2 Alicorns or use some kind of ascension magic to become one.

The Cake Twins have shown us that what race foals come out as is essentially random as long as the parents have some multi-racial DNA in them, which after a thousand years of the three races living together in harmony is probably in everyone.

@Perpetual: Only one person is angry.

@Terl: She didn't ditch RD completely, she just got caught up in the MMDW rush. I grant it could have been handled better, but there's no sign that she was going to disown RD forever. Heck, the whole reason for their interaction was Scootaloo inviting Rainbow Dash to the celebration. Even if Scoots didn't view RD as the end-all be-all of existence, she still wanted to spend time with her.

And now I go to lunch.
