Theory #1: Indulging? Seriously, after a thousand years, how many foods did she have insane urges to eat? How many things she had to do?

Theory #2: Filling out 1000 years worth of tax forms. Spending a year millenia dead in the moon is a popular tax dodge.

A Ponibooru commenter pointed this out, I checked, and it's true: Colgate has a stethoscope, so she's a doctor, not a dentist. (You can see it at around 14:24, when Luna turns the bowl of fake spiders real.)

I'd always been of the thought that she was holed up in the castle being a Basement Dweller, a bit shy and uncertain of being accepted by her people, and everyone working in the palace was just too scared to point out what she was doing wrong. Probably her sister finally convinced her to get out and try to win back her subject's approval. As much as a Troll as she is, she probably thought it would be good fun to have Twilight and Luna both learn something about Friendship by sending Luna to Ponyville, instead of telling Luna what was wrong herself. Trollestia strikes again!

Also, something I noticed about the past two episodes... in "Lesson Zero" Derpy only appears flying above a crowd chasing the Mayor and of course fighting the Mayor. In "Luna Eclipsed", she's only seen in the apple dunking scene yet Carrot Top shows up throughout the episode, even alongside Dinky at one point towards the end.

Are they reserving Derpy for only gag scenes? Seems odd to no longer see her randomly in a crowd.

I was kind of surprised the Cutie Mark Crusaders didn't show up at all in "Luna Eclipsed" it seemed like the perfect episode for them to show up, considering 'Nightmare Night' was supposed to be for kids.

On another note, these last few episodes have felt really convoluted and over the top. They aren't as good as the previous season's episodes, I don't feel.

I expect fan guesses on what Fluttershy felt on Nightmare Night and what she was actually DOING in that cottage, and what Rarity eventually settled on for a costume. ..... 3 days later.

They did show up in the background at one point, I think. Apple Bloom is the bride of Frankenstallion, and Scootaloo is a wolf. I forget what Sweetie Belle was.

It probably won't happen, but I really hope that the next episode includes a scene of Rarity coming out of her boutique in some absurdly elaborate costume only to realize that she's like a week late.

Not sure if anyone's linked this yet, but we have Word of God-Empress of Ponykind of what Rarity was originally supposed to be doing for Nightmare Night

. And yes, her perfectionism meant that the costume wasn't actually finished on the night.
