@Perpetual Lurker: They aren't superpowers! Stop judging them as if they were humans! That's like claiming that humans have superpowers because they're so much stronger than insects! My sister has been capable of ripping out the chain from a door from before high school yet she's still capable of being gentle. Because it's completely natural to her. Ponies would have built everything at an appropriate strength for thembecause that's' what's normal for them. As for gags, are you seriously claiming that scenes like the sonic rainboom, Fluttershy outstaring the cockatrice and Luna shattering the ground are gags''? Because if so, I don't think we'll ever agree.

Oh wow, we're still on the power level thing? I thought for sure that would be over by the time I got back.

TL;DR I think that (on average) E Ps have greater physical strength, Pegasi are faster, and Unicorns have more finesse. The degree to which these apply is greatly open to interpretation. I'm leaving it at that.

I'm claiming that blatant inconsistencies like that don't require headcanoning workarounds, especially when it makes other moments stop making sense. The show doesn't take itself seriously during those moments, so the view shouldn't either, IMO.

They still make perfect sense to me.

Of course, I take everything seriously. And I pretty much never use Doylist explanations. That's why I used to complain that musicals were unrealistic when I was young.

I can't really reconcile your definition of pony strength with things like May The Best Pet Win and Winter Wrap Up, but if you can, more power to ya. You just have a habit of stating these things as if they're obvious facts and not your headcanon.

Cool pixel art of the CMC as adults. Scoots, AB, SB.
That would be running a punchline into the ground.

Scoots still looks like a filly.

I love Appleblooms's look.

Sweetie is really cute but it doesn't really match her personality. Course, that can change.

Also, in Equestria, the butterflies have Super Strength. I'm not sure if they're stronger than the average human, but those butterflies are certainly much stronger than me.

Of course, they're made of dark matter.

I myself am going to stop trying to find explanations for everything on the show. It's magic and a cartoon. Best to just roll with it. tongue

EDIT: Really like that AB too.

Yeesh. You people make it sound like you've never carried a ten ton boulder before. Like it's really that difficult.

That reminds me of a book I once read, where the climax involves a giant boulder, a paper mache duplicate, and the ease of tossing said boulder around.

The cake clearly weighed more than a ten-ton boulder. The Cakes don't mess around.

It sure is. It actually made Pinkie Pie, the girl who wades through the buffet single handedly and can eat herself in batter form with no ill effects, very fat.

T-minus 39.5 hours :D

Moe style Fluttershy

Also the MMMM was more wobbly than Tom, so it was waaaaaaaay harder to carry since the mass balance could shift.

I like the more RPG-ish aspects of earth pony fanon. Like instead of big abilities, they get a shit ton of passive buffs and little finesse stuff. Strength and endurance, resistances to weather, earthbender style senses, etc. Not only more likely to be prime physical specimens, but those versed in earth pony lore also start picking up stuff like armor piercing, magic grounding, regeneration, and D&D Clairvoyance.

I remember in Platinum Crown, applebucking is a novice's use of that magic to directly manipulate earthen forces — basically commanding the tree to spontaneously drop apples — and Applejack eventually uses it to slam through defenses and rip the entire lawn out from under an opponent.

One day I'm kind of hoping to see one of the more crazy epic stories try to use magic on Applejack, and she just kind of sits there grinning like an idiot while nothing happens. And then she realizes her hat got burned and starts punching faces in vengeance.

I don't really like it when Earth Pony powers become "active" in their use, because then they're no different than unicorn spells. So little is made of them in the show compared to the likes of flight or unicorn magic that they pretty much have to be passive, otherwise there'd be a magic kindergarten/flight camp equivalent for them.
