Interesting. I'll reserve judgement on the writers until the books have been reviewed and I get to read them.
That's most likely just the publisher being lazy and copy/pasting the text and just replacing the relevant character name.
The writer has multiple personalities.

Nah, I like Angel the way he is. Not to mention that we've seen him a lot with both traits at once, like in Ticket Master way back or in Hurricane Fluttershy. I actually find Angel to be one of the deeper characters in the show, which both weirds me out a bit and fascinates me at the same time.
I see him as a someone with the intelligence of an adult, but the maturity of a four year old. He clearly loves Fluttershy and encourages her a lot, but he's also been spoiled rotten by her and doesn't take no for an answer very well.
It kinda looks like a disgruntled purple blob with a ponytail.
I remember this one fanfic where her cutie mark comes from, after she was abandoned by her parents in the middle of nowhere, blowing bubbles to pass the time.

I did a cutie mark bit for her in a fic I wrote, but it doesn't really work as a standalone story without the context its told in.
She tried to acquire a great and terrible power, so when she was caught, they sealed away her memories and dumped her in Equestria. Each bubble represents a lock on the seal that can only be opened by a key scattered somewhere around the world in a hidden location.
