well on Twi and TK, she was able to levetate that book in the BBBFF song just fine, I doin't think they need their cutie mark to do magic, what we were seeing when she struggled was Twi's very first time trying to use TK, which she eventually got the hang of like almost all unicorns.

Again a CM does not decide what your talent or skills are, a CM is a representation of those skills talents and magic you naturally have, and appears when you recognize what they are.

In terms of power? Theoretically, yeah. But you'd have to find an efficient way of A) Harnessing and utilizing it, and B) actually getting a steady supply. The latter is easily solved thanks to pegasi. the former? Eeeeeh little bit harder.

Sorry, I hadn't meant to say that Getting a cutie mark automatically leads to getting a spell. Twilight's shown us it doesn't really work like that anyways, even if she IS different from the norm. I meant that the finding of a special spell tends to coincide with the finding of a cutie mark, or that finding one's cutie mark tends to give one insights into spell they would have an easier time learning. Like if I were to realize I'm talented in... I dunno, jewelry making, I'd probably go looking for spells in the field of metallurgy and gemcraft. OR in Sweetie's case she should look in the field of sonics.

Her talent seems to be building in general, considering what she did to the clubhouse.

@Apple: Well, keep in mind Thunderclouds don't just wander around the globe infinitely. Even if you could wire them up, a cloud would still run out eventually, and it's not really the sort of thing that's convenient to use as a battery, due to the possibility of it's charge going elsewhere. Plus, I'm not sure how easy they are to manufacture, if it's even possible.

Yeah, it's like the reason that hurricanes peter out over land but grow bigger over the ocean; they still need water vapor to grow, and without enough water vapor they'll eventually shrink and just be blown away.

yeah I agree that knowing what they are best at makes it easier to focus on that. But is was no direct causation with a CM, rather a corollary effect, they are both produxts of the same event, but neither depends on the other.

That said, it doesn't mean that they need to do this or get their CM to so magic, if anything I'd say it's more likely that unicorn's simply don't develop any strong magic (baring the magic surges during infancy, which eventually fade.) until they are older, like around puberty, which just happens to coincide with the average age most ponies begin getting CM's.

And some fancy crystal magi-tech.

Wait...so, you could build a device that creates clouds then induces lightning out of them for power...and to create clouds you need...water.

With Twilight in the BBBFF song, she was shown in the same song practicing lifting a book with Shining Armor, and was putting quite a bit of effort into it, so it was still quite difficult for her.

I have a headcannon that it's possible to store magical energy in special crystal, and yes this was long before the CE came up, sort of a magical battery, in fact that's what the dam is for, not hydro-electric power, hydro-magic power, not sure the details, but basically they use the dam like humans use a HE dam, but instead of sending out power they use it to charge these magical battery crystals.

@Apple: Pegasus racial magic allows them to manipulate clouds and fly. Presumably they can build a lightning charge with static.
