The hard work that they did specifically for the trap, and for no other reason.
Still, the "trap" was based on the assumption that Babs continued bullying them. If she hadn't, nothing would have happened. It's not that different from "taking revenge" from someone stealing your sandwiches by preparing an apocalyptically hot one.
Sure, I can agree that the CMC had better solutions available; but again, the situation was not symmetrical.
