Darn, missed a unicorn magic discussion.

My opinion is that any unicorn can learn any spell albeit ones similar to their Cutie Mark are easier to learn and more likely to be innate. However to learn spells that aren't innate is extremely hard without formal teaching and there are few primarily unicorn school and those cater exclusively to the nobility or the extremely rich.

I agree with JT and Badwolf about unicorn magic (though Twilight can learn any spell by seeing it once).

@JT That bit is from the beginning of the episode, when Twilight is practicing her magic. In any case, Spike said "only a little magic", which I'd prefer to take at face value in saying that other unicorns can't learn off-talent spells period.

Thgis interpretation makes no sense from what we've seen from the rest of the show.

Under this interpretation, spellbooks, magic classes and spell invention would all be completely impossible, which we know isn't true.

@Orion: it'd have been interesting to capture a modified MRI 3D snapshot of the energy/magic field around a pegasus in flight. I reckon the energy field from your wings covers a large area and displaces extra wind.

Why hello new wallpaper :D

@unicorn casting: Unicorns as far as I see general learn a few cantrips and a signature spell or two associated with their Talent/Cutie Mark. They should be able to learn magic "out of colour" so to speak, but it's generally much harder. They'll also have an easier time learning new spells associated with their talent.

Didn't Homer Simpson get that result too?

Earlier, I remember someone asking if there could be ponies who would still represent the elements of Harmony but have opposite personalities from the main 6. Potential opposites for Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash were mentioned, and Pinkie was said to be the hardest. I thought of ones for Pinkie, Rarity and Applejack:

Applejack (Honesty): A very prissy pony who is otherwise very bluntly honest about her opinions. Kind of the type who is a harsh critic but when she complements something, you KNOW she thinks its good. Hoity-Toity might be a good example, actually.
Rarity (Generosity): A quiet, down-to-earth farm pony who is extremely generous with things and always makes sure to have lots of good food for everypony. Probably would be the type to easily give out things for free even if her family told her to stop doing that, since she wants to be generous towards those who can't pay.
Pinkie (Laughter): Either a silent mime kind of entertainer who is very introverted off-stage and/or someone who is quiet but enjoys jokes and writes comedic stories and joke books and might be a silent prankster.
