Shipping, huh? Obligatory self-promotion link. Okay now that that's out of the way, I'm sure you've all heard this before, but I tend to view shipping as a way to explore the characterization of the cast more by seeing how they react when placed in romantic situations. I don't think there's much real evidence for pairings in the series itself outside of Ship Tease, but it's an interesting thing to think about.

My headcanon for why Fancypants is in Ponyville is that he put in an order for Rarity (hence why she's dressed up), and he's the kind of guy who would travel to Ponyville himself rather than make her haul her stuff out to Canterlot. He just picked a bad day to visit.

It's also possible that he simply made friends with her and came out for tea or some such as well.

Pinkie pike so cute I ship her with Sorin, and that cowboy, and I ship the mane six togither.

I will only support ships that make no canonical, or even fanonical sense.

I don't think I need to reiterate my love for canon ships.

I will support crack as long as it's treted as crack rather than likely *cough*Twixie*cough*.

Anyway, my biggest ship is Appledash due to the fact that they act like they're already married.

After that, I've got several others, including mutually contradictory ones of varrying strengths.

My favourite ship which isn't popular with the fans though is Spike/Fluttershy. (Even tough I do prefer him with Rarity, this is my first shipfor this show. In the first episode I decided that I ship this.

I have decided to accept JT's headcanon for Fancy Pants. It is suitable for the noble pillar of upstanding righteousness that is Fancy Pants.

@Ace: There's a lot of differences between me and Star Swirl CXLVII as well, but several core important things remained unchanged. For instance, her veiw of Star Swirl the Bearded was based on my own of my father.

My reasoning for Fancy Pant's importance is that he has a very prominent day job in Canterlot Media, and his true influence lies in his connection to the Government as a spymaster.

My reason for being a shipper is pretty much the same as what JT said: I like the potential interactions that can come from two of the mane 6 being in a relationship. This is probably one of the biggest reasons why I love Twidash so much {Besides the fact that Twilight and RD are my favorite charectors} since they're interactions can be intreasting.

And I also believe that you can make any mane 6 pairing work as long as you put enough effort into it {Like what JT has done with his Appletwi fanfic}, and that you can do this without ruining the friendship dynamic that the mane 6 have. I still don't understand how some people view shipping as OOC. I don't mean to sound rude when I say that, but I just don't get it.

Also, I suppose I should note that before this show came out, I wasn't a shipper at all. Guess that's one thing these ponys drive me to do {Besides drinking }.

EDIT: Crap, I just realized that now we're talking about something else. Top 5 favorite ponys, huh? I'll have to think about that for a little bit.

Shipping-wise, I can see why Dashie is one of the most popular for shipping, since she has strong ties to most of the Mane Six :3

She's got that rough-n-tumble rough play with AJ, the Childhood Friend bond with Fluttershy, a fun and exciting link with Pinkie, and that odd-couple vibe with your pick of Rarity and Twi.

She just works well with all of them in different ways, lol.
