Heya guys! You know how last episode has Celestia saying something along the lines of "When Twilight has finished saving the crystal kingdom, we will know she is that much closer to being ready."? What do you guys think she meant by that? What is she preparing Twilight for? Do you think it will come up this season?

I sincerely hope it's Royal Archmage and not the Alicorn of Stars or somesuch.

I keep hearing it's to prep her to being an Alicorn. I don't buy it, myself. Mostly because it would ruin the Status Quo.

[down]I see what you did there. ^_^

No no, clearly she's the Twilight Princess.

@Cookoo: The status is already not quo, though. There's definite progression in the seasons in the girls' relationships and their abilities (Twilight's got her magic down sharp now), and with Cadence and Shiny being brought back immediately and the Black Book of Plot Relevance, I don't know if we can hold the status quo as god for much longer.

[up][up] True, but Turning Twi into an Alicorn I think is still too much of a change for the show to take. Unless Hasbro is really giving the creators some elbow room to do what they want.

Just how many gambits does Celestia have piled up on top of one another?
What's the worst that could happen anyways?

Wait! Wait! Wait! What if Twilight is getting ready to take an apprentice of her own!? Teaching is an important part of learning, after all.

  • Gets lost in daydreams of Twilight teaching Pumpkin Cake. The overpowerdness is beautiful*

EDIT:[up]All of them. She has all the gambits.

While I don't think it would be impossible to do it well, I'd object against canon ascension. Can't really give a reason beyond "I just don't like it", though.

I just don't like Twilight being singled out like that. I mean, sure, she's the main character, but aren't her friends supposed to be just as special as she is?

Well, Twilight's always been the centerpin of the Element Bearers (Magic being the centerpin of the Elements themselves), so who knows. It could go either way at this point... but I'd really rather they didn't.

Ahoy hoy.

I honestly hope they don't go down the ascension route just yet...although the idea of twilight being a teacher might work. Or a traveling 'prophet of friendship' or...something.

I'm in a similar position. I don't like the idea of ascension. If the show decides to go that route, then fine, I'm sure they'll make it work, but I don't even like the idea that ascension is possible and I like the idea that Twilight will ascend while the others won't even less. Still, there have been indications that ascension speculation is unfounded and if they go that way anyway... well... as I said, I'm sure they'll pull it off. They've done pretty well so far. Even my least favourite episode was enjoyable enough that I've rewatched it multiple times.

What Twilight's cutie mark really means: she's a special purple-hued snowflake.

I really wish the main cast will leave Ponyville for an entire season in the future.

Hi folks!

Only watched last episode from YouTube last night.

I didn't like it.

Fi M has two kind of episodes: slice of life and adventure. In general I would prefer adventure. But this series best is on the slice of life ones. Let me explain why:

This is a series about human relationships. When they do "adventure" episodes, they make abstract nouns become "real". Like Discord is a character, not real discord between ponies. And they still pass a message, but as a metaphor. Slice of life, instead, show in practice how relationships work, with examples.

In this 3rd season premiere, hatred and sadness are mystical forces threatening the crystal ponies to literally vanish. Dark shadows touch the ponies and make them sad for no real reason other than "it's magic". This is not bad per se, but it's weak compared to when Fluttershy said mean things and made Pinkie and Rarity cry in the minotaur episode.

In "the art of the dress" Rarity, because of her generosity, tries too hard to please her friends, and epic fails at the fashion show because of that. Then she recluses herself and keeps crying on bed. I mean, it's not like "the spirit of generosity" appeared and make her "destroy" the dresses, or a villain sabotaged them before the show, or "Reclusion" got back from a 1000 years exile and locked her inside the room. In "applebuck season", there was no "Hard Work Spirit" appearing to cast a "sleep deprivation" spell on Applejack.

To be fair, I was expecting a "metaphor" episode already. But still... when the crystal ponies said "I feel there's something missing" I noticed there were no kids in the CE. I though "the secret to defeat the King of Shadows will be they rediscover how to form families and have children and be happy and full of love again." But it turned out it was just a MacGuffin.

[up]Oh, yeah.

Maybe Sombra didn't allow them to have children while he was ruling.
No heroes, no villains, only pizza.

There were a couple of Crystal Pony fillies in Princess Celestia's projection, but that was showing the Crystal Empire before King Sombra took over.
