Ah, someone's liveblogging it.
I'll pu my analysis of stuff into a spoiler, alright? Because I just had a thought.
I think here is something quite significant about there being nothing but Earth Ponies in the population of the Crystal Empire. Specifically, to talk about Sombra's defenses of the Crystal Heart. I noticed hat, from the outside, the tower in which he kept the heart coul dhave easily been accessed by a pegasus, or any species with wings, just as it didn't take too long for Twilight to reach it with magic. But I think that was the point. The whole of the Empire's population seems to be Earth Ponies. While their connection with all things growing and living on the earth (plants, animals, etc.) is amazing, they can't use magic (outside of emotion/unity artifacts and such) or fly. And that, I think, is why Sombra hid the Heart in the way he did.He's not just arrogant and cruel, he is very clever. To even begin o access the Heart, one would have to be capable of using, not only magic, but the same dark magic that he himself used. Else one could not expose the entrance. The same sort of magic is needed to stop the door, but anyone who thinks the same spell would work twice would be punished with the nightmare door's curse. The final staircase is the one part of the setup that could be passed by an Earth Pony's strength and stamina, but the final trap, the seal that locks away the seeker? It was a ground-based pressure trap. If by some miracle, an Earth Pony reached the second staircase and made it to the heart, they wouldn't be able to get to it short of a truly epic jump. And then, the only way back to the plaza would either be a surely deadly drop, or right back through Sombra's chambers. And again, he believed nobody would dare enter his presence.Which makes me wonder something. Is the solely Earth Pony population of the Empire something inherent to Crystal Ponies, or did King Sombra do something to ensure a lack of those who could fly or use traditional magic? One would think that the previous Queen was a Winged Unicorn, if the Crystal Ponies instantly pegged Cadence as their true ruler, so...

...wait, were you emphasizing it to try to make sure I understood, or as a "Eureka!" moment?
But yes, that makes sense. Which makes Sombra's defense of the Heart more clever. Not only did he set it up so that it required a skillset nobody in the Empire had, but also so that anyone who could reach i would likely be stopped dead by the Door, slowed by the stairs long enough for him to intercept them, or be trapped by the... trap. Though, I wonder if the final trap wasn't also set up to stop a flier who hovered over the Heart to grab it...
