@Bluespade: Perhaps, though lets be honest, we don't usually apply the same standards of normal people (and even then we don't usually treat normal people like that anyway) to fictional characters, for better or worse. It may just be a one off thing that she does in the first episode to establish that she's the cocky braggart for the first time viewers, well know as things move on.

@J Teeth: I don't know. It sounded much more selfish to me then others I guess.

Am I the only person who found FS getting knocked across the globe really, really, amusing?

I find myself wishing that Fluttershy got inflicted with Amusing Injury more. evil grin

It was pretty funny.

And yeah, across the board the premiere episodes function a bit differently then the mid season ones. They tend to serve as partial entry points to the series.

Rainbow Dash has proven herself to be an obnoxious jerk that doesn't know what character development is. Can I get a thumbs up?

Man, I never realized how much I enjoy seeing Fluttershy getting hurt (in a comical way, that is).

I hope someone drop an anvil on her like how Derpy did to Twilight.

Honestly, character development always gets reverted for every character. Pretty much the only thing that's stuck has been Twilight never going back to being anti-social. And that was established in the first episode.

Yeah, RD fluctuates a bit, like all characters. Character development isn't exactly linear. People act differently on different days. RD has ups and downs just like everybody else.

pretty much what JT said and @ Mio, yes exactly MOST fictional characters, the ponies however are the exception they ARE writeen like normal people, with variable moods, interests, good days bad days, they do learn, they do grow, but it's all added to the whole not just rewriting part of it.

@ Blue: Well she was somewhat antisocial this episode. I must do this alone despite everything previously shown has been that I accomplish more with my friends by my side.

Depends on what you define as normal. I haven't checked to be sure, but I have a feeling it's slower than the second half of season 2 was.

@badwolf: Because Celestia kinda made 'doing it herself' seem important...which was a way to get her to learn self-sacrifice.

Because Celestia told her to do it alone. Well sort of. Celestia specifically told her that she would have her friends, her brother, and Cadance there to help, but in the end it was up to her. She just kind of misunderstood her.

@seraphem: The ponies aren't exactly unique in that regard. Most characters episodic television shows with multiple writers are like that. It's typically considered a good thing, just something that is an inherent aspect of that medium.

A lesson was about self sacrifice.
