@Blue: Seems kind of weird when it looks like she had given up on that last season (if she was ever doing that to begin with). Not to mention that she pretty much just wanted an opponent to fight and beat.

@Mio: Well, real people aren't consistent in there actions all the time either. Back in Hurricane Fluttershy Dash seems to have made a conscious effort to treat Fluttershy different. But she regresses back to her old standards repeatedly. It's just the way she is.

I also liked how competent Sombra was. I definitely give him a credit for his hard work.

The problem I had is that his motivation and characterization was vague at best.

For some reason, I expected him to have a Stalin-like character.

No heroes, no villains, only people.

I cringed a tad at the lack of shields. do you know how much something like that could hurt when directly impacting the armor?

Yeah. Most of what we know of Sombra is his preparation and determination (in manipulating his broken horn, corrupting the place from within, and then regrowing his horn).

My guess regarding RD and Fluttershy is that RD's view is basically "Come on Fluttershy, the fate of the entire kingdom is at stake so you can put up with jousting a few times". Yeah, she's kinda harsh about it, but it's not like she was bugging Fluttershy for her own amusement or anything.

And yeah, I'm assuming the book and Luna will come up again later; it would be weird to include it if they aren't going to follow up somehow.

I totally understand what everyone has been saying about Sombra, how his defenses and preparations make him out to be an intelligent and powerful villain... but he's still boring. He has no personality whatsoever.

I saw the jousting bit as Dash trying to toughen Fluttershy up again.

I was half-expecting there to be one more scene of that sub-sub-plot. When RD encouraged FS to do it for the sake of the crystal ponies, I wanted to see FS start channeling Assertiveshy and actually beat Dash once.

That would be running a punchline into the ground.
