I'm glad Luna's becoming more like Celestia. It makes her more visibly her sister's equal (experience aside), which is good for her, I think.

I also like Luna's expression in this picture. Twilight looks happy as well, so I guess maybe she will be getting help from the girls...

Don't think Luna's dressed as Nightmare Moon. No helmet. Think they just redesigned the character whole cloth. She's got a different mane and different proportions than in season 1. Also different color, though this might just be the lighting.

I was mostly making a joke about how her mane is like Nightmare Moon's now. Maybe the sisters can put away their gravity defying hair when they want too/weakened/under certain circumstances? Maybe Luna "grows up" in this episode?

Well, Season 1 Luna as we saw her had just returned to normal from being Nightmare Moon. That probobly left her kinda weak.

Yes, I'm suggesting her mane looks more like a normal pony's when shes tired. Same for Celestia, now that I thought of it.

Maybe her hair is only like that during the night (last time we saw her was during the day after all)... then again that wouldn't explain why the reverse isn't true for Celestia...

I like the new design.

Celestia uses a "super crazy flowy hair" spell to keep her mane the way it is and she taught Luna the spell too. Luna spent the rest of season 1 perfecting that and getting her coat dyed.

EDIT: Ghilz: Yea, people dress up as both fictional and real humans all the time. I guess "I'm dressed up as a generic human" would be a little weird (or maybe just incredibly lazy), though.

Till I hear differently, I'll just go for the redesign theory. The artists probably felt it was better to make Luna more resemble her sister than the mundane ponies, so they changed a few details.

Odds are also that Luna's real self in season 1 was pretty low priority design-wise. She barely appeared at the end and was not seen again. The artists probably just felt the episode gave them a chance to reconsider and improve on it.
