I like the name Ditzy Do too... it does sound more pony. I always thought of Derpy as something that they started calling her because she was klutzy and its one of those unfortunate nicknames that stuck.

What name is Hot Topic using for the new toy they are putting out of her? I know their shirts are referred to as Derpy, alas I am too fat to fit in them despite losing 10lb just about.

My headcanon the entire time is that Derpy's a nickname she picked up in flight school, and her real name is Ditzy Doo because that actually sounds like a pony name.

My headcanon is also that Cadance's name really is Cadence, but the guy at the census office, or the immigration office, or whatever mistyped it on the typewriter (hooves, yo), it propagated to all her official records, and she's been getting misspelled mail ever since. This might be because I sympathize.

I do like the Ditzy real name, Derpt a nickname thing. And no the package doesn't say Derpy, but when rung up the receipt lists it as Derpy Figure

They do mention a Ditzy Doo in the Winter Wrap up episode. She flew in the wrong direction to go and get the birds to bring back home for spring. I don't remember if she shows up after that in the background ponies to Joss it being her though.

She's mentioned, but never named on-screen. For some reason, a faction of fans took that to mean that Ditzy Do and Derpy must be the same pony.

IIRC the writer did confirm that she was originally Ditzy Doo in the script. So even if the fans just made a wild guess they were kind of right.

Well all the background ponies were identical twins or triplets in season 1 so there could easily be both Derpy and Ditzy Doo.

I think the writer said something along the lines of "Her name was Ditzy Do but if they (the fans) want her to be Derpy Hooves she can be Derpy Hooves"
