Actually, it would be kinda funny for a throwaway gag if AJ had to write something, and she WRITES with an accent too.

Well, you tell me. The creators made her too limited, IMO.

AJ's the one most concerned about family, and I like to think of her as being the most compulsive gambler of the Mane Six.

Somepony in the cast needed to be grounded in reality and down to earth. Applejack's character is necessary to the show, IMO.

Twilight filled that role pretty well in the first season. Even then they were able to shift around the "straight mare" role depending on the situation.

Heh... "straight mare"...

Amethyst Star is Dinky's older sister in "Sisterhooves Social". Its canon!

And she was peanut butter pony in the Mare-Do-Well episode, and was the animal team captain in "Winter Wrap Up".

But yeah, another background pony. Her popularity went up after "Sisterhooves Social", but she's kinda still an unknown. Shame cause she actually has some actual characterization for a background pony.

But yeah, I'm hoping that Season 3 dispels some of the "AJ is best Background Pony" jokes. Sure she's not as nutty as most of the cast, but she's still just as well developed as everypony else. Twilight does have something of a role as Only Sane Man on occasion, but it's different from how AJ is. Twilight basically wavers between "I have no idea what I'm doing" when it comes to social stuff, and "I've totally studied this" with more academic subjects. Whereas AJ is much more solid about social things. AJ is more of a Team Mom than anything else; even in season one, she didn't overreact to stuff nearly as much as Twilight did. She's only really ever overreacts when her personal reputation is called into question.

What for? The town pretty much hails here as a hero normally.

Unless she is just using it to annoy/keep Dash in check, which I can see her doing.

That's sadly accurate. People won't let her live it down.

@Kyler Thatch - If I didn't put in that pothole, it must have been no doubt weird. Then again, any sufficiently large forum is prone to zaniness so maybe not.

EDIT: Why did I edit out this part? This is strange.

Anyhow, my point is that AJ is closer to Boring, but Practical.

@Marston: Yeah, those are some good points. I really would like to see an episode written from Applejack's perspective.

And yeah, AJ is basically the boring but practical pony. Although I honestly wouldn't call her "boring"; after spending quite a bit of time writing her in one of my fanfics I can safely say that there's a lot that can be done with the character, it's just that her personality is a lot more subtle and not nearly as in-your-face as RD or Pinkie.

I think it was a bad idea to give Derpy speaking roles in the Last Roundup. They must have aware of sheer popularity of Derpy.

@JT - I phrased it wrong. I personally don't find Applejack boring.

I don't think Applejack is boring. She's more interesting than Pinkie at least.
