I can understand endearing, but how is she mysterious? We probably know more about her then any of the other royals, and she is not particularly subtle about how she feels about things.

I beg to differ. There's a serious case of Unreliable Narrator when it comes to Luna and the whole Nightmare Moon incident. And the princesses aren't talking.

Is there? I thought it was pretty self explanatory. Luna brings the night, ponies don't appreciate her bringing the night, she starts to feel neglected, x years later she stages a coup and makes it night forever, gets sealed away in the moon.

I think the biggest question that remains is, did she go over the deep end all by herself, or did something 'push' her over the edge? There's hints that it is the latter.

Also, I didn't know that door to door salespeople still existed.

What's to explain? Luna just magicked up some extra intimidation and styled herself Nightmare Moon. Nightmare Moon is just her.

What hints? Seriously I'm interested.

The nightmare is the end result of Luna playing god and trying to create a pony who enjoyed the night, like Twilight's "If I can't find a friendship problem, I'll make a friendship problem!" She tried to create a body and a soul to inhabit it, but the body died immediately, and the soul was to real souls what a golem is to a real human. It was incomplete, imperfect, and couldn't survive on it's own so the soul jumped into Luna's body where it took on and manifested as her darker aspects and thoughts, thus creating the Nightmare Moon persona.

That's a pretty big assumption. One that I don't think the show supports.

Also, holy crap air date! At this rate I thought we were going to be waiting till after Thanksgiving for the season to start.

There isn't any evidence in the show itself that Luna was being controlled/influenced by an outside force, though Word Of God says so. However, if that wasn't the case, it would be rather ridiculous for Celestia to forgive her not 5 minutes after she attempted to bring eternal night again and personally kill Celestia's student. Not to mention, it seems unlikely that the Elements of Harmony could actually remove a person's regular malice instead of simply removing dark magic that was affecting her. If that was the case, they may as well just use it on everyone in Equestria.

Yeah pretty clear there is something differnt between NMM and Luna. the question is is NMM just a result of Luna's greif and jealousy made manifest, or some other force that was exerting control over her.

Personal Headcannon NMM is the result of Luna getting Drunk on the Dark Side it's all from her, a physical manifestation of all her darker emotions, it's from her, but it's not HER. Though I do think there may have been an outside force that gave her a little push to help get things started.

Build a fool proof system, and the world will create a better fool. My random thoughts
