Are griffons really mammals? Or do they count as birds?

And of course a diamond dog isn't a mammal either - its an ugly and stupid.

I couldn't really hear anything with the scare chord or all the bronies hollering.

I'm pretty sure the explicit word on animals was that all hoofed animals can talk, while there were some exception among non-hoofed animals, like griffins and dragons.

@Sereg: It really depends on how the fic handles it. The difference is that once something appears in canon it's, well, canon. As in, it's just as much a part of the setting as everything else and becomes an irremovable aspect of the setting, which isn't true for fanfic unless I want to headcanon it. I.e. if canon introduces another Sealed Evil in a Can, it's something I can't get rid of unless I call Discontinuity on it, which I really don't like doing. Whereas if a fanfic does it it's just an AU and I can take or leave it.

But really it just comes down to the fact that I'd much rather see the cast have to deal with a contemporary villain rather some ancient evil or whatever.

As regards Griffons and Diamond Dogs, I'm assuming that the "only hoofed mammals can talk" rule only applies to real animals. Mythological creatures like Dragons and Griffons (and Diamond Dogs; they're really more like Trolls than anything else) are basically whatever the writers feel like.

This raises a lot of potential for other civilisations. We had donkeys and mules...maybe now we can have camels, llamas, rhinos etc. there was a g1 era camel toy btw...she too had a cm.

Well, it's a crowd, so I guess it's easier to get caught up in the moment. That's why these recordings aren't really worth much.

Somber or one of his forebears has the local Equestrian counterpart to the Apple of Eden or Sons of the Patriots, and is using it to enslave the populace. Cadence will need to depose him to reclaim the throne for which she has birthright to.

Somehow I can still imagine AJ killstealing whoever the villain is by kicking their throne over.
