To be fair, she had no idea that the thing with the element would weaken Discord's prison (she probably assumed it was permanent), and I doubt there's any prison capable of containing Discord once he gets out of the statue anyway. But yeah, I kinda hope this is the last thing they do with "ancient evil returns after X years of being sealed" or whatever. We need a modern villain, Chrysalis style.

I'm not entirely sure that she was aware of the weakening of the elements magic until fairly recently. After all the Elements hadn't been connected to anyone in centuries and it held up fine. And the placement of his statue is really not going to make a difference.

Not much can be said about Nightmare Moon though. She made a gamble, and it thankfully paid off. Not the best way to handle a situation, though.

I think it's implied that they weren't even aware of the passage of time. The pony Twilight talks to seemed surprised to learn 1000 years had passed.

And as close as we can get to confimation that we'll be hearing more about Starswirl the Bearded.

adding all but confirming Royal Sister backstory, more Discord and that, I see them all being part of the same backstory episode.

I'll bear that in mind and maybe shuffle my planned fics around to include a modern threat before I do another ancient one (actually, that will probably work well for me anyway with the history episode coming up (YAY! By the way!). Aso, it looks like the Crystal Empire is a World of Woobie. I am okay with this.

I am fine with this designation.

They do seem to be moving away from that. Even King Somber doesn't seem to strictly fit that mold.

No, what I got from the clip is that he's ruled the Crystal Kingdom for a thousand years, because that mare that Twilight and Spike were talking to said that it seemed like it was only yesterday and wondered if they really had been gone a thousand years.

@JT: I realise that you were talking about canon, but if you don't like the fact taht canon is using it so much, I presume that the fact that fanfics are as well doesn't exactly thrill you.

Listening to the clip again, The mare Twi talks to says mentions 'the time he ruled over us'. I'm assuming King Somber's not actually in charge at the present moment.
