I mean, each pony has one cutie mark, which represents their hir special talent and purpose in life. That makes them sound like "one-trick ponies". Then again, they have episodes showing Sweetie Belle eventually able to make pies and capes. Sure, they're not awe-inspiring, but it could show that these ponies can learn more than one trick!

We already knew they were more versatile than that. Rarity's cutie mark talent isn't actually fashion or high-class hobnobbing — it's locating gems. And we don't even have to get into extensive list of class perks.
