Not really? He's a baby. They like him because he's adorable. It is nice to ave younger sibling type characters treated as positive instead of pests, but that's about it.

Not literally a baby. A baby probably wouldn't have crushes on girls in the social circle. He's more like an older kid. I think they only used the word "baby" because they don't expect little girls to know what "cub" means.

And, romantic or not, I think the feeling that he's getting that much attention from a group of girls would probably be pretty fun for a guy. (Well, most guys, not all.) We can tell that Spike finds it fun, and I think that in itself is supposed to appeal to male viewers.

Yeah, they call him cute in the little-brother sense, but a compliment is a compliment.

I always got more of a "middle or high schooler with an adult sister" vibe from him. He can be childish, but he's not babyish.

On the one hand, I don't really think that RD would make that bad a sister, but on the other hand, it's kind of nice that at they made it so that at least one of the CM Cs isn't related to any of the mane characters.

Has it ever been said anywhere that Dragons age slower and live longer than Ponies? Everyone seems to just assume so. Has there been any Word Of God on the issue?

From what I've seen, most are going by how dragons are depicted in Dungeons and Dragons.

No Word Of God, but given that a dragon considers 100 years to be a nap, they must live pretty long.

There hasn't been any confirmation, but considering that Spike is still considered a baby dragon I think that it's a safe assumption.

I was thinking more elementary or early middle school rather than high school.

Actually, that reminds me of when I was in grade 7 and my sister's friends (my sister herself moved on to high school) seemed IIRC to be practically inviting me into their social circle, and I was too shy about it to join. (I was typically by myself.) I guess memories like that give Twilight Sparkle a "big sister whose little brother hangs out with the same girls as her" feel for me. (Partly because I sometimes feel that I probably should have done the same myself.)

Cuz Spike doesn't seem to be ageing slower than anyone else.

G4 Spike is however old the 7 Friends from My Little Pony Tales are, I think.

Yet at least a bit younger than all the ponies in this version, given that he was hatched when all the other ponies were little fillies, yet old enough to talk.

He doesn't seem to be aging at all. The show's set in probably too small a sample of his lifespan to deal with that. (Well, depending on how long the show lasts. If it lasts long enough eventually the question will arise as to why he isn't growing up.)

And G3 Spike is still quite young, merely a thousand or two.

Assuming that Twilight was 8 or 10 when she joined Celestia's academy, and she's like 20 now. That would make Spike 10 to 12.

I'm depressed, because I kinda wanna see Spike as an adult (or at least an adolescent) dragon. Just so I can see if he still acts like our beloved Spike.

Me too, I hope he is like in his fantasy with rarity ( man size) and not like the superbig dragon in dragonshy

I dunno. Seeing Spike's personality in the body of a massive dragon might be kinda endearing

I imagine he'd be scared of scaring ponies (especially Fluttershy)

I don't think that is entirely out of the question. Remember when Twilight freaked out and made Spike grow several times his size? I think Spike was hit with a physical aging spell (as in, Spiked physically aged but mentally, was still the same).

Actually... that might make for a good Spike episode.

Spike knows how powerful he's going to be when he's older, so he gets Twilight to use an ageing spell on him. In his new form he ends up being unable to assist Twilight anymore, and he inadvertantly destroys things or scares the other Ponyvillians, leading him to the brink of self-exile (again).

Then the spell wears off

...and he explodes.

Four times.
