@Mio: That's a good point. Only thing I can think of is that they know how fragile Dash's ego is, and think she might take it better if she doesn't know that it's them or something. Still not the best explanation. Even so though, I'm more concerned with making it believable; I think it's possible that the cast might decide that was the best course of action (even if it wasn't in actuality), the episode just needed to actually explain their thought process.

@J Teeth: I actually think it probably would have been better if Mare Do Well was a completely different character we had never seen before. At least that way there wouldn't have really been as much questioning of Mare Do Well's motives for rescuing ponies. not to mention it could have allowed for the Aesop to go beyond just letting bragging go to your head.

@Mio: I dunno, I think revealing the MMDW as a never-before-seen character would have been a bit of a cop out. Maybe they could have made some other ponies who were inspired by Rainbow Dash's heroics, but individually didn't have the ability to pull it off and decided to team up. That way the damage to RD's ego would all be incidental.
